education. By the mid 60s the SAT scores had peeked. I graduated HS in 1966. You could already notice the downturn by then. Definitely by 1975, the difference was incredibly negative.

What destroyed the quality of education in the NYC public school system? In my opinion based on first hand observations, the teachers union. The teachers went on strike for the first time in 1961. In 1962 the United Federation of Teachers officially represented teachers in NYC. This event had a ripple effect on the entire country.

Many public schools don't even teach American History anymore. Home schooling is the right direction.
