Wow...a lot of bickering going on.

Posted: Feb 21, 2012

I just don't understand why we cannot see that we are heading in the same direction as Greece.  No politician running for president...including our current president.....has done anything  or will do anything to stop the outrageous spending that we have going on in our country.  Politicians jumping up and down about extending the payroll tax cuts when all that does it hurt social security even more than it was hurting before.  They say there is no inflation going on so obviously the people doing these studies haven't been to the grocery store because those prices are definitely up from what they were.  I understand the desire for alternative fuel sources and to be energy dependent and yet we don't have a feasible afforable alternative and the billions of dollars that have been given to alternative energy sources was for nothing because those companies flopped.  Our president won't allow an oil pipline to be built even though that would create jobs...which we need more than anything right now.  Every time gas prices went up a penny....people were wanting Bush's head on a platter.  I hear crickets chirping now that gas prices are much higher than they were under Bush.  I just don't get it.

Our president has done nothing but make empty promises and so many people have fallen for it hook, line and sinker.  As for the GOP candidates....what a joke.  There isn't one I truly want to vote for.  There is one I like a little more than the others but no one I truly believe in or want for president.

Our country is in a downward spiral and I don't believe either political party has the cajones to really do what needs to be done.  We need to cut back on government itself.  As for a "fair tax" we need to make sure that everyone pays taxes....including those 50 some % that don't pay any taxes at all.  That isn't fair either.  My BIGGEST problem with entitlements is that they seem more oppressive than helpful.  As soon as someone wants to get a second job to make their situation better...government pulls the rug out from under them unless they don't get that second job and continue getting government welfare.  Then you have the deadbeats who are beating the system.

There is no pride in hard work.  We have taught our kids that competition is bad because we don't want anyone to feel bad for coming in last place.  I get that to a point, but if you don't work hard, you don't succeed.  We are teaching our kids to coast through while others work harder because in the end we all get trophies.  I'm sorry, but real life isn't like that.  I'm just truly sad at how our country has changed.  We once went from proud Americans who wouldn't accept a handout even if we were starving...to Americans who stand with their hands out crying, whining and yelling that they are owed something for doing nothing.

I know this post is all over the place but I just have so many rants and raves about the direction of our country.  We have over promised the American people and now we cannot sustain those promises financially.  As much as it sucks and as much as some people depend on those promises that were made....we cannot afford it.  I don't care if you tax the rich over 50%...it still won't be enough in the end.  Until some of you get that and understand that....we are going to continue to build our debt, make promises we cannot keep, and the next thing you know....we have become Greece.

Some of us need to wise up!

I thought the same as you did with the gas prices. Under Bush, when it hit $ 3.00, people wanted to have his head on a pole. Since Obama took over, it has increase 100%, and not a word. What is wrong for one, is wrong for the other. As for the job front, just saw an article by Gallop that the unemployment is not 8.3%, but actually 9% and rising rapidly. It was very interesting because they went into how these numbers come about, and specifically stated that the job front is much, much worse than what we've been told. There is supposedly 1.2 million that have totally given up looking for a job, over 40% still looking that have not found a job in 2 years! Well, somebody has to be supporting them. I'm with you, too, on the 50% not paying anything. If you have no horse in the race, you don't care how the race ends. I am sick and tired of working like I do to carry those that refuse to get a job, any job, until they can work themselves into a career or position they want. Set the table Greece, you're gonna have company!

because no one will be able to afford to bail us out. We'll have to default on our debts, ruin our credit rating, and then the cuts will have to be made because there won't be any borrowing.

That is the biggest problem with posters here and people in general that just do not grasp basic economics. Sooner or later, the money runs out. Everything now is so top heavy with the takers being 50-52%, that when this topples, and it will, it is going to be frightening. I have never seen a sane explanation from any poster on here, no matter how many times they were asked, how they expect less than 50% of the population to carry the 50% and growing population that contribute nothing and not have a problem. You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure it out.You just hear crazy talk about wanting more, viva revolution. No thought or sense to what we are facing, and certainly no reasonable explanation of their position.

I am too old and too tired to continue to fool with this mess. I have over the past 3 years had my debit card and my credit card (both with BOA) shut down completely. Yesterday I got email stating my credit card because of "possible fraud" on the account. I am never called, just shut down and I have to go to the bank, get new debit and lots of frustration for me. I shopped at Christmas close by my home and had the debit shut down, without notifying me first, because it was a store I "didn't ...
