What a disappointment - :-/

[ In Reply To ..]
Too bad... Now no opportunity to complain about all the money on her private plane, the one for her clothes, all the money she'll spend on a special wardrobe, her hotel room, her food tab, her accessories, her table manners, yada yada yada...

Oh and if she went, no doubt there would be criticism she didn't stay home to close out the girls' school year. She'd be a bad mom.

Chin up!! I'm sure somebody will dig up something else to be negative about.

IMO, this post was made to do nothing but get another "arrogant" - (how original *yawn*) dig in.

[ In Reply To ..]
Ever wonder why using the term "arrogant" to describe POTUS/FLOTUS is all the rage in RW-land? It's synonymous with uppity... that's why. And since someone dared to call this out in a post below, I'm sure there will be more "arrogant" posts/references to come. I can't wait! (sarc)

In other words, even though your response was well though out, sarcastic, and witty, the post you responded to, IMO, didn't deserve your efforts. Just ignore it.

If you really think about... shouldn't the RWers be proud that she's snubbin' a commie?

Opinions - everyone has one. - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
nm

So you're saying there would be no criticizing if she went? - No wit or sarcasm at all?NM

[ In Reply To ..]
x
No... I'm saying that the main reason for posting this was to get the word - "arrogant" out there again.
[ In Reply To ..]
She's been criticized for everything she does (and hasn't done), so it would be no different here.

See the thread below this one regarding the arrogance topic.

Normally I would consider the latest whining over what MO does (or didn't do) as another desperate attempt to find negativity. But, after seeing the thread below, IMO, the main objective here was to use the word "arrogant" again. If people want to put extra thought into their responses to a post that was made in order to use a buzz word (I'm being careful which words I use here to avoid the report message groupies) then go for it. Whatever floats your boat.
ahh... thanks....I completely misunderstood. Now that my coffee quota - is met, I get it! ;-) ty nm

Master dog-whistler, the unlamented attack dog Lee Atwater - on coding hate language: "You start out (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
From Wikipedia below, but googling will turn up many sources, including audio of the interview.

"Atwater on the Southern Strategy[edit]
As a member of the Reagan administration in 1981, Atwater gave an anonymous interview to political scientist Alexander P. Lamis. .... Atwater talked about the Republican Southern Strategy and Ronald Reagan's version of it:

Atwater: As to the whole Southern strategy that Harry S. Dent, Sr. and others put together in 1968, opposition to the Voting Rights Act would have been a central part of keeping the South. Now [the new Southern Strategy of Ronald Reagan] doesn't have to do that. All you have to do to keep the South is for Reagan to run in place on the issues he's campaigned on since 1964 and that's fiscal conservatism, balancing the budget, cut taxes, you know, the whole cluster.

Questioner: But the fact is, isn't it, that Reagan does get to the Wallace voter and to the racist side of the Wallace voter by doing away with legal services, by cutting down on food stamps?

Atwater: You start out in 1954 by saying, "N*****, n*****, n*****. By 1968 you can't say "n*****" â that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me â because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "N*****, n*****."

Atwater died in 1991, but I know he'd be so...well, maybe not exactly proud, but something.
That was almost 60 years ago, and, shamefully, - sm

nothing has changed the republican viewpoint on racial issues. They're still just as racist as they ever were, only more openly vocal, and the hatred has increased, to the point where I truly believe they want another Civil War (or, as they put it, "The War of Northern Aggression").

It seems to be prevalent mostly in the South, although it's all over the country in spots. They're definitely getting more hateful as time goes on.

What a bunch of ignorant people.

I remember Ronald Reagan as President. They were the worst years of my life. I lost my job at Legal Aid and had to pay 16.75% interest on my home mortgage, which was the highest percentage rate I can remember EVER.

Times were much better under Bill Clinton than any of the Bushes or Reagan or Carter.

"Of course, the Chinese public would enjoy a photo of the two first ladies together. But there's absolutely no evidence to suggest that the Chinese are clamoring for a meeting (neither Peng nor Michelle Obama is trending on Chinese search engines or microblogs). Nor are they likely to be disappointed to learn that the U.S. first lady was busy with her daughters. In fact, from the perspective of an education-crazy Chinese public, Michelle Obama is behaving precisely as a parent should."

OMG! What the heck is she thinking? - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
Doesn’t she know that the worse thing she could do is to snub the Chinese First Lady? You don’t DO that especially when the country being hosted is on the not-so-friendly end of the spectrum. Yet, she will fly all over the country on speaking engagements and/or fund raising for the party.

This snub is a slap in the face. It’s one of the First Lady's responsibilities. I don’t know of any other FLOTUS that snubbed another country’s First Lady, especially those FLOTUS who had children. Using the kids as an excuse is a very weak and poor excuse.

Sorry, guys, but I think the representatives of the U.S. should have been given some classes on etiquette and/or do’s and don’ts of being POTUS and FLOTUS. It seems that Michelle wants all the benefits of being a FLOTUS but none of the responsibility.

BTW, does the mother-in-law still live in the White House or did she get evicted? If she still lives there, what’s the problem? For pete’s sake, it’s only for 2 days. I’m sure the kids would understand.

how did the mother-in-law get into this post? - nm

bent out of shape about something and is just refusing to go. NOT a good country to snub. And yes, if the MIL still lives there, isn't that why we are paying her rent too?, so she can be a babysitter? Maybe I missed something.

I can see she's getting a pass again. but - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
It really has NOTHING to do with Michelle Obama.

It's about PROTOCOL and what duties are EXPECTED of the First Ladies (NOTE THE PLURAL "LADIES").

The First Lady is hostess of the White House. She organizes and attends official ceremonies and functions of state either along or in place of, the president. She usually attends to hosting the wives of foreign heads of state in the U.S. and meets with wives in other countries while their hubbies (POTUS) are meeting to talk "business."

First ladies select specific causes to promote, usually neutral ones and they usually sponsor national and international causes like Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Kennedy, Mrs. Johnson, and both Mrs. Bush's.

Guess protocol and duties go over some heads around here. Such a shame.

Rules and protocol they could learn. Class? No, you either have it or you don't. They don't.

Aw, the Republicans are upset cuz they can't say - "she picked commies over her kids!"

Meanwhile, let's all moan about China and how they're poisoning our food sources and using slave labor, and then chastise the first lady when she doesn't ditch her kids to go kiss their feet.

Let's also not forget the angsty drama that ensued when she fed kids healthy snacks at the Easter egg roll.

This board is so awesome.

A food nazi - for your information - since you obviously don't know
[ In Reply To ..]
A food nazi is a figure of speech. A food nazi refers to anyone who dictates what others eat.

There's reference to food nazi moms, even someone has a facebook page and she calls herself a food nazi. Then of course there is the famous soup nazi (from Seinfeld).

There is a difference between a nazi and a food nazi. You need to do some homework.

Because you jump to conclusions you are the one who looks ********

No soup for you!

I never jumped on Laura Bush for anything. - I'm not that petty.

[ In Reply To ..]
Have a great day!

How does serving kids healthy food make one - a food nazi?

[ In Reply To ..]
No wonder the future of America is looking fatter by the minute. Suddenly the Honey Boo Boo family popularity makes more sense.
Going into schools, pulling kids lunches that parents - made for them, starving other kids
[ In Reply To ..]
because other kids are overweight, so starve the ones that are not. Dictating what other people eat is a food nazi.

Seriously - mbmt

[ In Reply To ..]
I did not spend my time thinking up ways to criticize Laura Bush, and I would bet not too many other democrats did either.

Jumping down buttocks so fast and so hard? What does that mean? - What food is nazi's feed?

[ In Reply To ..]
LET'S face the fact that this is not Laura Bush we are talking about. Besides running a stop sign a long time ago, we all know she's perfect.

There is nothing about (or in) the DemocratIC party that is arrogant or disgraceful, whether or not IT'S a Democrat... I apologize for the redundancy.

Wishing a better day to those of you who seem to be having a not-so-good one BECAUSE Michelle is staying home.

Anything goes, let's just hate - everything today! Yay!
