Just when someone like Freddie Gray hits his stride, society is robbed of his contribution. It doesn't seem fair.

The record suggests that, as the years went by, Gray became harder to convict of a drug crime. Police kept arresting him. Prosecutors kept putting him on dockets. But after he was convicted of illegal drug possession when he was 18, Gray mostly avoided jail time.

Court records show not-guilty verdicts, cases dropped, closed or put on the inactive docket. There's one "probation after conviction" for a drug charge last August. Those are pretty typical outcomes for someone police frequently suspect of being a street-level drug dealer.

So is detailing his nonviolent drug-related rap sheet prior to 2007 and stating his death was tragic - attempt at sarcasm or sunday-morning immorality?

None of these things posted about this man's rap sheet meant the man deserved to die while in police custody. None of it was violent crime, anyway, it details a drug problem which ended in 2007.

Sure, he wasn't a saint and may not have led the most moral life prior to 2007, but sarcastic jokes about loss of any life are just as immoral to me as his past drug problems and crimes.

Thanks for the Sunday Morning "sermon", but I think I'd rather watch Joel Osteen now for my Sunday-morning sermon. Because he's not mean with his humor, or judgmental while giving sermons, and he reminds of us of such things as St. Paul actually did the worst thing many can imagine; he killed Christians before his conversion, proving no one is beyond redemption.

Though, I'm pretty tough on violent crime and believe rehabilitation for such types is rare, Freddie Gray had no record of violent crime and had been clean since 2007, possibly turning his life around, so yes, it is especially tragic that he died while in police custody.

When I make a mistake, I admit it. It's what separates us from politicians :) Sorry about that, I was multitasking. Too much to do today and not enough time today, just got home in fact.

However, my mistake doesn't change the fact that I don't understand what people are hoping to accomplish by circulating the victim's nonviolent crime rap sheet (which does not even include resisting arrest and most charges were dropped)? Are these nonviolent crimes supposed to justify the manslaughter charge and blame the victim?

If if the absurd argument is that they somehow prove he deserved it, well, why do we even follow due process of law at all, then, instead of random vigilante justice? Why even have trials at all, for the arrested OR the officers, if we believe people deserve to die over nonviolent crime?

I'll tell you why. Because this is why we even HAVE due process of law instead of Sharia law, to protect society at large from the sort of people that think other people deserve to die over nonviolent crime (which is actually the way criminal minds themselves think).

Okay, but then those same people really shouldn't complain about Mosby bypassing a grand-jury, and no more complaining about riot-mob vigilante justice either. Because you can't just due process of law to protect just one side, sorry. As for me, I'll still advocate due process of law to protect BOTH sides, thanks

So happy with the charges against 6 police officers as this marks rapid progress towards the resolution of this case and their ....acquittal. (heavily paraphrased, not worth the exact quote research, it's sarcasm).

Conservatives needn't worry so much about this case in particular. However, if they don't start paying attention, it is going to be a long, hot, contentious summer. Frankly, I'm up for it, particularly with thoughts like these at the top of the political posts on a Sunday morning.

promising careers, particularly for people in the inner cities. Note, when Freddie Gray's intrigue began.

The housing crisis and unemployment certainly are to blame in this portion of Baltimore for the hopelessness and lack of "career" opportunities. The only assured is to sell to the wealthy. The only product he had to sell was drugs. The CVS only had so many jobs to go around.

Further limitations on Gray's career choices from the start would be childhood lead poisoning. - Guess that's funny to some too

Lead poisoning would not excuse his behavior prior to 2007, but it is relevant to the OP's original point about his "career" being cut short and his rap sheet because lead ingestion in childhood has been proven to cause lower IQ and behavioral issues.

The case regarding his/his siblings lead poisoning was settled in 2010, so it's hard to know, but if true, it means his options were already limited from childhood both biologically and developmentally from lead poisoning from the getgo, in addition to his socioeconomic limitations of poverty and drug usage of his mother and neighbors.

For those of you who are not familiar with the TV show "The Wire" I recommend that you rent it or stream it. Regardless of your political affiliation, there is much to be learned from this excellent production. Coincidentally, it takes place in Baltimore and goes a long way to explaining the sociologic, economic and political implications and origins of just what we are seeing in that city today. One of the writers had a long career as a Baltimore police officer and though it is not a documentary, there is probably more truth in it than what we see in the newspapers.

Did you all know that women are not equal to men under the law on a Federal level? As in, there is no constitutional gurantee of our rights as citizens of the US? As in, any rights that we do currently have at the fed/state level can easily be rescinded because there is no constitutional guarantee of protection? I had no clue and I'm pretty p.o'd!! ...
