Illinois SB 2386

Posted: Jul 24, 2013

passed into law on July 28, 2004, co-sponsored by then Senator Barack Obama.

The text summary reads: “Provides that it is an affirmative defense to a violation of a municipal ordinance that prohibits, regulates or restricts the private ownership of firearms if the individual who is charged with the violation used the firearm in an act of self-defense or defense of another. Effective immediately.”

Guess his position has "evolved" since then.

;

To me, the issue here is whether it - was really self-defense.

Zimmerman already had a violent criminal background and was a proven liar, and pretty paranoid, judging by his numerous calls to 911.

He approached Martin, not the other way around. Martin was unarmed. He was walking home.

I know everyone here has different opinions on what happened, but the problem is that it is such an unknown factor--whether or not Zimmerman *needed* to shoot Martin. When the lines are so blurry, I do think the law needs to be reexamined. There's too much room for error.

It's a little different than a home invasion or a mugging situation.

I know that the stand your ground law wasn't - a part of the case...

but Obama was the one that said that states needed to rethink those types of laws when he was a co-sponsor of one in his own state.

Well, as situations arise, sometimes laws - need to be adjusted.

and if someone who co-sponsored the law can come out and say "we need to make adjustments" because situations are arising that weren't factored in, I don't see a problem with that. I see it as responsible lawmaking.

Article from Chicago Tribune: Illinois is like Venezuela now, a fiscally broken state that has lost its will to live, although for the moment, we still have enough toilet paper. But before we run out of the essentials, let's finally admit that after decade upon decade of taxing and spending and borrowing, Illinois has finally run out of other people's money. Illinois Is The Obamacare Of The United States. It's BankruptJun 22, 2017
The company that runs the multi-state MegaMillions and Powerball lotteries announced that it was pulling out of the state of Illinois. Why? Because the state bankrupt. It's had a century of almost uninterrupted rule by a corrupt Democrat machine, and can no longer be relied upon to actually pay lotto winners. Blame Blagojevich and the pension plan. All the money that is collected in taxes in Illinois now goes to pay pensions, so the state just raised taxes. I am so disgusted with Illino ...
