Gun ban expansion
Posted: Jan 24, 2013
"The California Democrat intends to expand on the ban that expired in 2004, BY INCLUDING HANDGUNS AND SHOTGUNS (caps mine), in addition to rifles. She would decrease from two to one the number of cosmetic features on a gun to have it be considered an 'assault weapon.' This means that if a gun has just one item like a pistol grip or bayonet lug, then it is illegal. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the same ban in New York last week."

Miller's piece makes it sound like they are banning handguns and shotguns, but that is not the case:
The new ban would: "Ban the sale, transfer, importation or manufacturing of about 150 named firearms, plus CERTAIN (caps mine) rifles, handguns and shotguns fitted for detachable magazines and having at least one military characteristic."
Further, "the legislation would GRANDFATHER IN (caps mine) weapons legally owned on the day of enactment and exempts more than 2,000 specific weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes." This is in contrast to Miller's statement: "INSTEAD OF (caps mine)grandfathering in current firearms, she would create a national gun registry for the government to track lawful gun owners".
I just can't stress how important it is to keep in mind that words are TRICKY (caps mine), so it's good to make sure we inform ourselves as much as possible, and always consider the source.
and I can't stress enough how the start of this WILL NOT (my emphasis) - stop shootings, murders, robberies, etc.

Most of you can't see it...it's NOT the guns or ammo, it's the PERSON behind the gun. The last 3 shootings were NOT DONE WITH ANY GUNS ON THIS LIST, yet anyone who owns or wants to sell one will be a criminal if this law goes into effect.
They can say grandfathered guns and ammo are exempt, but you won't be able to use them to defend yourself or else....
I, for one, really, really love the Missouri law that one rep is going to try to pass that will CRIMINALIZE any parent who fails to register their gun with the school, impose a fine up to $1,000 if they don't. She stated she's doing it to "HELP THE POLICE SOLVE CRIMES." How's that going to help? What she is doing is turning parents into criminals if they own a gun!!!!!!!!!!
I understand that it's the person behind the gun... - sm

Regardless, it's fair to say that the weapons in question here are not sport or hunting firearms. Americans have a VAST array of firearms they can buy and use.

owner held personally responsible for the security of his guns. If they are stolen and used to commit a crime, the registered owner is held just as responsible as the criminal. Most terrible killings take place with a firearm that is stolen from a family member or a friend.
They WERE done with the guns on the list - Bushmaster?

No, she isn't. If the law passes and a gun-owning parent chooses not to register their gun with the school, they'd be turning themselves into a criminal.
(I took the liberty of removing a couple hundred of your exclamation points, btw)
The list is out and they ARE banning certain handguns - Truthhurts

Being FITTED for military characteristics is more than just "looking like" a military weapon.
Again: "...plus CERTAIN rifles, handguns and shotguns fitted for detachable magazines and having at least one military characteristic".

Medicaid ExpansionJul 11, 2014Reading many of these posts, I would think the majority of you, if asked, would claim to be Republicans or Conservatives. Another Obamacare Win: Red State Montana House Passes Medicaid ExpansionApr 11, 2015Montana’s Republican-controlled House voted Thursday, 54-46, to approve federal subsidies for Medicaid expansion. Although Democrats are outnumbered 59-41 in the Montana House, a unified Democratic caucus joined forces with 13 Republicans who defected from their party’s leadership, to push Senate Bill 405 through the House chamber. The bill would expand Medicaid coverage to between 27,000 and 46,000 low-income Montanans who earn less than 138 percent of the federal poverty level.
