Are IQs dropping?

Posted: Apr 4, 2017

...are we getting dumber...seriously.

this country has been taken over by a family who will never step down from power.

we are expendable, just good for shoveling money to the few rich people in the world.  the pile gets higher and higher for them, and we are giving our lives and souls for their betterment.

We are Devo...(Short for devolution. Meaning to regress or degenerate. To evolve backwards).

Co-founder of Devo, 1978, Jerry Casale: "We were kind of poetically explaining what it meant to be Devo, and what de-evolution was. We didn't see any evidence that man was the result of some never ending linear progress and everything was getting better. When we were growing up, the magazines would show the world in 1999, and it'd be this beautiful, futuristic, domed city with everybody going around in jets and space-cars. Everybody was fed and everybody was groomed and everybody seemed to have tons of money. It's such a joke, what really happened was: the planet got more and more overrun by population, greater gaps between the rich and the poor, more new diseases, decimation of the environment. It seemed like even though people were getting more 'free' information from television and newspapers, they were actually less informed, less thoughtful, and acting dumber. So we saw de-evolution. The fact that a bad actor could be elected president was more proof to us. Things have just gone downhill from there. We didn't really want it to all be true, instead it looks like de-evolution was clearly real. In retrospect, compared to what's going on today, Reagan looks like a serious guy."

What reality are you living in? - anon

Of course IQs in this country are dropping, however, it has nothing to do with Trump or his family and to even suggest so is ludicrous. when you have colleges and universities pushing agendas and teaching pointless classes, offering safe spaces for people who can't handle life, handing out binkies and puppies, what do you expect?

Instead of focusing on the sciences, we have professors who'd rather scream about white privilege and how white men are the problem of the world.

Honestly, if you're going to seek a reason for why our country is in the place it is, at least seek an honest reason, grow up and deal with reality.

Obviously IQs are dropping--- - they elected Trump

What do you consider smart? We now have an explosion of - young women cranking out babies

National IQ scores from 2010. US ranks 9th, - pretty embarrassing back them.

[ In Reply To ..]
Could it possibly be due to our education system?
Actually IQ and education are not the same - anonon

Someone who does not have a good education can still have a high IQ and vice-versa, but I will say that as far as education is concerned, my son is a junior in high school and has been required to take much harder classes than I did almost 40 years ago. He has had to take not just Algebra I that i only had to take in 8th grade, but also Algebra II, Physics, and if he wants to pass the PARCC test to get a diploma next year he will have to have some calculus too. We were not required to do those things and I think it is a waste of time for some kids who do not have any interest in STEM careers later on. My son wants and has always wanted to be a police officer and right out of high school will join the police service aide program until he is 21 and can go into the police academy. He might supplement with some criminal justice classes at the local community college, but that is it. Seems to me that while the education system is not perfect by a long shot, it certainly is more difficult than it was when I went to school in the '70s and '80s. I just hope the new Education Secretary does not make too many negative changes. She does not seem very on-top of things to me.

CNN and MSNBC telling their viewers to ignore Susan Rice story - and actually calling the story "racist"

and "sexist."

Now that's real intelligent.

Liberals struggle against reality, like girls are boys. - Trump won, despite the arogance of the left.

[ In Reply To ..]
They do not have the power to alter reality.

Now, whose got the low IQ?
Not all transgender people are - on the left.
[ In Reply To ..]
My family is proof of that.

We all voted Trump.

Not every GLBTQ person is ignorant enough to vote Democrat. Any person with common sense could see where this country was heading. Down the cesspool and the liberal democrats seem more than happy to see it heading there and are angry that Trump is trying to stop it.

All I can think is the left are about as evil as the terrorists who want to destroy our once great country. I have never seen such hatred and evil from any other group as seen on the left these past several years.

I have come to the conclusion that the liberal democrats are the real enemy.

Drumpf didn't CAUSE lower IQs, but lower - IQs are what voted him into office.

He may not be the actual disease, but he sure is one heckuva symptom.

Typical leftist excuse for why they lost. Blame 65 million people - who don't agree with them ignorant.

Just like everything else that it's going their way, change the narrative with words like abortion becomes "choice," communist becomes “progressive,” “communist dictatorship” becomes “people’s democratic republic," etc.

Look at this board, MT's complaining of the same thing - over and over, low pay, etc., but still

[ In Reply To ..]
expecting things to change. Is that smart? Why not try to learn something new. This industry is not going to change.

All my life I've been hearing republicans are stupid and democrats - are brilliant. This is just the latest

[ In Reply To ..]
version.

They call Americans who love their country and are for legal immigration but against ILLEGAL immigration dumb and stupid. The left wants to nationalize everything because they think they are smarter than everyone else, and if you disagree with them, then you are ignorant and want to take us back to the 1950s and keep women pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen.

Same old, same old.

Your party is controlled by a billionaire international - financier who expressed no sense of guilt

for collaborating with the Nazis, so you might want to ease up on lecturing the rest of us about IQs. Soros takes the evil rich to a new level.

OUR country is being run by a narcissistic, - greedy, paranoid,

[ In Reply To ..]
billionaire right now. He is out to get whatever he can from this, hopefully short-term, experience. He is stripping anything that will stand in the way of his making more money when he goes back to his "Huge" business empire so that he can laugh at the rest of us for letting him get away with it. He might also be "collaborating" with bad people as well to sell us down the river. He couldn't say enough nice things about the leader of Egypt who killed the protestors against him. Sounds a little like Putin too. Hmmm, sounds like a pattern for our leader huh?

It's easier for the left to believe republicans are ignorant than to - admit maybe they were wrong on

[ In Reply To ..]
policies. They always resort the smart/stupid meme. It's all they have left.

I find trying to talk coherently with a leftist is like talking - with someone with ADHD.

[ In Reply To ..]
It always end up as struggle for power between ideology and MSM sound bites, not thought and conclusion. It always ends up you are a racist, homophobe, fascists, or dumb.

Hey! My son has ADHD and he can - anonon

[ In Reply To ..]
have a perfectly coherent debate with anyone, even a Trump supporter. While I did not believe it before, I now see how liberals paint conservatives with a racist brush at times. And as far as sound bites, Trump supporters only quote things like Trump tweets, campaign "promises", and a lot of Breitbart made up news! Maybe the leftists are sick of the right not addressing the real point of post and just throw mud and blame at the prior administration and call people names!

My son has ADHD and unless he is on his medication he - can't seem to focus on one thing,

so I understand why you said this. It can be aggravating.

protesters, who chant thinks like the following:

“What do we want? Dead cops!! When do we want them?? Now!!!”

“Pigs in a blanket, fry ‘em like bacon.”

This is the politically correct world we live in. People who really do say and do stupid things are invited to the White House.

They were more productive and creative, and didn't have to watch 24/7 Trump bashing on TV.

Many people have been talking about as we made life easier and foolproof, and blurred entertainment with politics, we would encourage a world full of fools. There's a movie called "Idiocracy" about this.

When you free up your brain from hating Trump and his voters, it frees up the capacity for higher pursuits.

An 8th grader in a rural area of the US in the early - 20th Century got an education

in a one room schoolhouse that high school students today would fail to achieve. They also believed in God and America and freedom, and had not yet been indoctrinated. They had the utmost respect for the Bible.

Many could quote extensively from Latin, Greek, Shakespearian and Biblical roots, and figure return on investment virtually in their heads, and write lengthy, well-composed letters in a beautiful cursive handwriting which is not taught today in many schools.

If you look at F. Scott Fitzgerald’s first novel, This Side of Paradise, considered at the time a charming book about flappers and their beaus, you’d be amazed at its erudition and difficult vocabulary. That would have been around 1919.

We’ve definitely gotten more stupid. Look at what passes for entertainment now.

Bipartisan answer to - the question

[ In Reply To ..]
I read the responses on this post and just can't believe that nobody seems to know the answer to why IQs seem to be dropping. I do not believe either Trump or Obama are the reason. I do not believe the education system has to do with the problem.

In my opinion, I believe technology is the problem. Maybe I should say over-technology is the problem. We are using so much technology that humans are becoming insignificant. We rely on technology so much that many cannot function without it. It has made us all lazy and we are just not driven to learn anymore. There is good technology and there is bad technology.

We are taking ourselves to being insignificant in this world. We are now working towards cars that drive themselves. That scares the heck out of me. We glue ourselves to television instead of picking up a book or getting out and working in the yard. Kids are playing video games instead of a good old fashioned game of kick-ball, hide-and-seek or my mother says. We don't teach our kids about skills like how to fix leaky faucet or make a dish of lasagna.

We are not only losing IQ scores but we are losing wisdom and skills, which in my opinion far outweighs high IQ scores.

Technology is not bad, but technology that makes us unnecessary is.

Perhaps indoctination plays a role. Schools used to - teach kids to reason and think, but

now they are being indoctrinated.

indoctrination theory in our present education system, why not ask your children what types of schooling your grandchildren are getting; or your own children for that matter? I asked my son whose 2 boys are in the 3rd and 5th grades. He keeps good tabs on what they are learning in school. He checks out their textbooks and regularly meets with their teachers. He also models critical thinking skills at home and monitors their TV watching to make sure the content is healthy and appropriate for them. This is why parents are most important in making sure their kids' education is the best it can be. So, another reason for the lack of critical thinking skills may just be parent's inattention to what they are learning.

Thumbs up to you. Education does begin - at home.

Sounds like you raised a smart son who is raising smart children.
