AARP objects

and being protrayed as supporting one candidate (Obama) over the other. Yet they're totally behind Obamacare - financially and otherwise - something that most Americans are against. They're very left leaning in other aspects of the political stratosphere and spend tons of money in mass mailings and phone calls to get certain legislation passed or not. Info easily available online. ;

Seniors, GOP and dem alike, DO NOT - vote against their own interests.

What in the world is surprising about AARP supporting measures they feel help protect Medicare and Social Security? So they don't toe the Fox line of nonsense on this. So what? I participate in plenty of AARP programs and social activities, and I can assure you they are not a liberal monolith. They don't want vouchers. They don't trust privatization when it comes to their medical care. Many of them had to scratch and claw their way to eligibility age through a medical care desert, uninsured and on county dole to get there or going without all together, due to pre-existing conditions, an unexpected loss of jobs and subsequent loss of group coverage.

They want to preserve what works for them. Their articles, studies and website go into excruciating detail in their analyses of why they support Obamacare. They appreciate the disappearance of the donut hole. They do not want to see it come back. They believe that injecting private sector "competition" will shrink the Medicare pool, increase their costs and ultimately transform what's left of the Medicare "choice" into the highest-risk pool on the planet, once the private carriers siphon off all the healthier seniors while leaving the others up poop creek without a paddle. The also believe that under those circumstances, only the wealthiest in their cohort will be able to afford the same comprehensive treatments they now have under the current plan.

That does not make them left-leaning. It makes them cautious. Get over it.

AARP is definitely a liberal-leaning organization - sm

as evidenced by the standards you put forth. My husand and I chose AMAC because they stand for the conservative values that we hold. People can choose either, but to say that AARP is not politically involved is incorrect. They've flooded political phone lines many a time. As above poster stated, this is easily researched online.

These days all organizations serving people are "liberal - leaning" in comparison to those that do not.N

they are mainly an insurance company. What benefits do you get besides a discount on car insurance, health insurance, and/or prescription coverage(insurance)? Don't they also offer a discount on eye exams(insurance).

Do they offer discounts on vacations like they used to? I never see an ad for that. What other social activities or programs do they offer? You never see those advertised.

AARP. I Am Thinking About Joining AndSep 14, 2015
I went to the movie Saturday. You almost have to rob a bank to go now. The popcorn for the medium size was $7.00. Ticket prices before 5 o'clock were $8.00 per person regardless of age. This got me to thinking about AARP. I do not think the prices would be any different for the movies but for other things. If anyone has AARP could you tell me a little about the savings you have found. TIA ...

Angry Mobs Of AARP Bullies To Descend On Lansing MI Capitol Mar 10, 2011
AARP Michigan is hosting a rally in reaction to a State Budget proposal presented by the Governor that calls for over $1 billion in tax increases on retirees, seniors and the working poor, while cutting quality-of-life programs and services by $1.2 billion and giving businesses a $1.8 billion tax cut. AARP believes this budget is an all out attack on older Michiganders. We believe what our members are getting in this plan is a much higher tax bill and reduced services. This plan would raise taxe ...
