eyelid is twitching

Posted: Dec 20, 2010

My right eyelid has been twitching for several days now.  It is driving me crazy.  Last night I looked in the mirror to see it twitch and it looks like I am sending a secret message via morris code!  Any suggestions to make it stop.  If I keep my hand over my eye to apply pressure to the lid, it stops, but I can not keep my hand on my face all day long.  I have wondered if muscle relaxers will stop it, as I take them for my back and GI tract when they acts up, but have not tried them for this and not sure if it will help.  Greatly appreciate any suggestions!

When this happens to me, I try to replenish my electrolytes with something like coconut water (you can find it in carboard containers) or "Emergen-C" (a powder which comes in packets). Gatorade might be a good choice, too. Anything to replenish your electrolytes, particularly at this time of year when it's quite dry.

hope that helps. good luck!

Thanks, I will try that - cindy

My electrolytes always seem to run just a tad below the low end of normal all the time, so maybe they are lower than just a tad right now. I am diabetic, so I try to stay away from Gatorade or anything with sugars other than natural fruit sugars in them, but will see if I can get the coconut water or the Emergen-C. Thanks for the tip.

When I had it, I was told by doctor that it was from "tired eyes." I haven't had it for awhile, but when I do, I just try to rest my eyes and get more sleep.

I've had periodic twitching on my left index finger for a little while now, but today it's to the point that it's starting to interfere with my typing.  I have moderate CTS on that hand; just wondered if that might have anything to do with it.  Anybody else have this problem? Hee, hee ... guess my name really fits today! ...
