Is it safe to fly after having a stroke

My sister just had a stroke about a week ago. She also has high blood pressure and diabetes. She's just recovering and out of work til Xmas and was saying she wanted to come out to see me. Is it safe to fly after having a stroke. I don't think so, but wanted to ask.

Have your sister discuss this with her doctor.

That's what I was thinking. I've been reading a lot of websites - just me (see message)

Just talked to about the dangers and reading many many websites. Most say waiting at least 3 months. I think with the pressurization of going up, etc is a bad idea. I'd love to see my sister, I just don't think it's a good idea at this time.

The orthopaedics do not want patients to fly for at least six weeks after a joint replacement due to the possibility of blood clots and that would be a big concern about a repeat stroke too, but you should really talk to her doctor to get her specific restrictions.

She had two strokes within three years and flew for about five years after the last one before retiring.
