If you are depressed because of this MT job, you probably don't need an antidepressant, you need to get out of MT--that's what I did. Mine was strictly situational-type of depression, and probably not bad enough for an antidepressant, but it went away when I quit MT. You know yourself best, so only you can decide. I knew right away it was because of MT work.

If you have ongoing depression not related to work (though, certainly work can make it worse), then it's hard to know what to do. If MT is making it worse, definitely get out of MT.

MT work is making me depressed BUT - I do not want an antidepressant

I have always thought antidepressants mask problems and also wonder if OP may have been affected by antidepressant while testing/interviewing for a job.

peaks and valleys of life, keeps my temper under control, gets me up and out of bed every morning. Best of all, NO side-effects from the medication, other than the intended effect, which is to help keep major depression (not just situational - but lifelong) at bay. It doesn't always work as well as it should - dose has to keep getting adjusted up and down - but it's kept me from offing myself, so for that reason I'd say it's a success.

I'm looking for one that doesn't cause weight gain, edema, insomnia, or hair loss, but gives energy and makes you feel normal.  Or is that asking too much?  I want to try Effexor but the withdrawal horror stories online have so far kept me from doing that. ...
