I made a scratch yellow cake with scratch buttercream frosting this weekend and I think I may have really started something. It was so good it made me wonder what it would taste like if I made a yellow with maple buttercream and a yellow with some kind of fruit buttercream, a chocolate with chocolate buttercream, you see where I'm heading with this!

[ In Reply To ..]I guess dry ice is expensive, plus everybody has to get their cut of the pie and sometimes I wonder what QVC's take is. Some prices aren't so bad when you consider the work you'd put into it making for yourself, especially if it's for one person. They're pretty sly with marketing, so you can get ripped off easily if you're not comparing prices for each of their deals.

This year for "holiday baking," I'm just focused on buying my wonderful ingredients (candied pineapple, pecans (who the heck can afford pecans anymore? or walnuts?) (speaking for myself), almond extract, etc...this stuff is not exactly cheap.
I even bought chocolate sprinkles for the first time in my life, at Big Lots.
So I have it in a cupboard. I love to open that cupboard and look at all my ingredients. That in and of itself is satisfying. There's a WHOLE winter to bake cookies, make a buche de noel (sp. possibly wrong), etc. What's the hurry? No hurry.
Enjoy the journey of life...and enjoy the ingredients of baking. Now I want to say something about foreplay, but I will just be an angel, and sign off for now :)

[ In Reply To ..]I recently used my aunt's recipe to make her to-die-for cheesecake. My intention was that the husband and I would have a few pieces and the rest would go to our friends. Unfortunately, we didn't plan very well because we never left the house, didn't have any guests, and ended up eating the ENTIRE thing in 3 days.
Next time, I'm going to verbally commit those excess baked goods to friends BEFORE I stick them in the oven. Otherwise, the husband and I will be Mr. and Mrs. Fattycakes.

I'm doing a cookie exchange with a coworker, so I DO get to make cookies - with pecans in them! I can also make half a batch and then freeze some. It's all good.
LOL - "Mr. and Mrs. Fattycakes." That's why I try and stuck to the cupboard thing, just opening it and seeing all my ingredients. I may actually burn 5 calories, opening and closing that cupboard! :)
I'm the opposite, if it's yummy I call them, if not... - I just eat it myself! OP - NM
