What is the best remedy for mange in a dog?

Posted: Apr 11, 2011

My son brought home a little stray dog he found.  She looks to be some sort of rat terrier mixed.  Very small, black and tan, small pointed snout.  Very cute.  Anyway, she has what I believe to be mites or mange on one side of her face and a bald, scaly red spot on her back near the tail.  I'm between pay checks right now, so I can't make an appointment with the vet until next week, but I want to make her more comfortable.  In my research, I saw a home remedy that mixes hydrogen peroxide, Borax, and warm water.  Has anyone ever used this and had success?  I also read about oil-based treatments using vegetable oil, etc.

I thought about putting some hydrocortisone lotion on her, but wasn't sure if that was good idea so close to her mouth.  And I thought about giving her an antihistamine such as Benadryl as I had a Sheltie that had allergies and the vet advised me to give him Benadryl and it cleared up his itching.

So all you dog aficionados out there, gimme some advice!  :)

great success with borax, peroxide, and water. Mix 2 parts water with 1 part peroxide, then add enough borax until it won't mix anymore and starts leaving powder in the bottom of the cup. Apply several times a day and leave on. Good for you for not going with the poisons!!

My sister's dog had mange and she was told to use burned motor oil on it. She did, and it worked great.

Get the dog to a vet fast. They often die if not cared for - but call the vet first

You don't want to bring the dog in around other animals. If you can't afford vet care for her, at least call and see if there is anything that can be done in the meantime. I hope she makes it!

If I could afford to take her to the vet, I would! I don't think she's going to die from - SM

She has spot on her face and a spot on her back, both fairly small. I used the borax/hydrogen peroxide remedy last night and she seems to be less itchy today. I am going to do it three times today and see how she does.

I understand. You're probably right. - Glad she is a little better.

Enter The 14th Amendment Remedy For Debt Ceiling Debaucle.Jun 28, 2011
For all those strict adherents to the Constitution, take note of Section 4: Section. 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.  It would seem this brings into question the fundamental constitutionality of the imposition of a debt ceiling statute, which naturally is trumped by the Constitution.  Look for th ...
