What has helped when you are

Posted: Dec 18, 2016

Single, losing my house b/c of MT pay cuts, so sold it.  Moving and having to pay to move and store my ungodly amount of stuff b/c I dont make enough to move anywhere/pay for a home or apartment in my area.  Its -23 degrees and I really dont know what to do.  Looking at the overwhelming amount of THINGS Ive acquired or accumulated over the years, and I am stressed beyond belief, trying not to miss work as I hv no benefits/PTO or paid sick days but having what I am sure is panic or a panic attack.  I am trying not to move away as my only family is in the area.  They are also in the process of moving, so not an option.   OMGosh.  I am stumped as to what to do.

Any similar situations?  What did you all do?

You need help. There are few of us who have no family members who can be relied on or friends who are always there. I am one of them. I am older but not old enough to retire.

Have 4 pets, all older than 5, two 11 years old.

Packing up my house and moving to an affordable state is my plan but I have no money to spare.

I am in California. Was worried enough about this years ago to create a site for single older MTs in our position on FB but it was never looked at by anyone.

WE should help each other (single older MTs alone and isolated from this job).

I am currently in a warm state in the south and recently - was in a similar situation. SM

I am in a warm Southern state, but not as far as Florida south.

If anyone can find any way possible to help themselves to move, you are welcome to come down here by me.

I'm leaving a very small one-dog town, and moving a little bit north, 2 hours away, to a bigger metro area where there is more housing and resources.

If we want to start a small group of MTs who are in our situation, we could give it a try, hook up on another popular social website that cant be named or I will be booted off the board for promoting other sites.

Can anyone hang on until tax time, do you get any money at all back? Can you borrow from a church group or some other social help groups in town? Sell everything you've got that you dont need; big furniture, old clothes, dishes, dust collectors, stuff you're hanging on to "because it belonged to..." and anything else you think you cant live without.

You'll be surprised what you can live without. I'm now down to clothes, kitchenware, cat litter box, a futon, 1 computer desk, wooden TV tray tables as desks, 2 lamps, and a few other odds and ends.

I sleep on my futon, heat one room at a time with a space heater and an electric mattress pad to keep me and the cat warm at night.

I've recently gotten out of domestic violence, and that's why I'm trying to move in a hurry. I already had to sell and leave things in 2 prior out-of-state moves, beautiful things, but had no choice.

I'm pulling things out of my hat, trying to give others ideas that might help.

i'm currently in another mid-Atlantic state - ...and not affiliated

...any longer with either of the big ones, N or MM...

I'd be happy to create a space on the two-syllable social media site... not sure why we can't name it...

Anyhoo... I'll create it, y'all just come... whatcha think? It'd be a good space to chill, vent, and what-have-you...

Just a heads up because my ex is a psycho who stalks my every "that social media" move so I can't use my own picture on my profile or mention where I work.

sell, sell, sell - what I did

Have a yard sale. Pain in the butt to manage, get somebody to help be eyes to reduce theft, but it can reduce your load of things and get some money in pocket. Find a local auction and sell there. No control on price you get (try to set a minimum that you'd accept), but that can also get you some money. An auctioneer does the selling, gets a commission, but you can get some good money for the weirdest things. People will buy even things you expect to toss out, so it's worth a try. I've also sold a lot of our things online. When husband got super sick, I sold things to get money to help pay bills. When he had heart attack last year and never got off the lifting restriction, I sold most of what we had left. We had to move, and if I couldn't carry it or shove it to a truck, the thing couldn't go, so all our big things have been sold. We have very little furniture, but all you really need is something to sleep on, something to sit on, a small table to eat at, and someplace to put stuff (doesn't have to be big and heavy). I've done many cross-country moves & had a lot of fun with it, but as I age, I want less and less to move with us. We're in process of moving again, so stuff is being reduced again. I think the idea of an MT community is pretty cool (other poster). We all know what it's like, could all help when times are tough.

Keep making decisions. When everything is in chaos, - every move is up.

Start looking for fields other than MT that you are qualified to hold down. Not trying to be negative, but if you aren't making it due to pay cuts, etc., a change in scenery won't help a ton, though you may end up finding a place with lower cost of living. Chances are, if it's an area with lower cost of living, the payscales will be lower for other types of work, as well. Good luck to you!

Donald Trump’s surprise victory on Wednesday in the bitterly contested US presidential election might have shocked people the world over, but there were people, aside from those who voted for him, who have found a cause for joy. How Federal Funds Helped Mitt Reverse Olympic Revenue ShortagesJul 21, 2012
The Romney camp has attempted to steer focus away from his term as governor, and is now chafing under the yoke of his business credentials of late.  Maybe they would be more comfortable with national scrutiny of his involvement in the 2002 Winter Olympics since candidate often points to that experience as a fundamental resume qualification for running the country “like a business.” After overcoming initial Mormon and non-Mormon local opposition based on perceptions of cronyism ...
