What are some of your pet peeves?

Posted: Jan 4, 2012

Some of mine are:  When people make something on the counter and leave their crumbs or goo on the countertop and don't wipe it up.

When people leave their shoes in the middle of the mud room right where everyone has to walk.

When people leave their empty wrapper or dirty glass sitting on the table instead of cleaning it up/throwing in the garbage.

When someone leaves food shmuck in the sink instead of rinsing it down the drain or garbage disposal.

Don't leave one piece of bread in the cupboard without taking a new loaf out of the freezer.

I just almost spit my soda out when I read your response. That is so my husband and my 14-year-old son!

Talking to you while their back is to you - then tell you - you need to get your hearing checked

[ In Reply To ..]
Oh yeh, when I talk to him with my back turned I'm just rude.

Go figure

I know this has nothing to do with what you posted but really curious only. sm - Shelby

Why do you put bread in the freezer? :)

curious - annoyed

[ In Reply To ..]
Because I buy a couple loaves a week so put them in the freezer until they need to be used.

My mom used to do this. Bread last longer. Although she always made her own - never bought store bread

I do that when bread is on sale. Also keep it in the frig all summer. - where I live, you have to.

omg husband and teenage boys - given up

[ In Reply To ..]
similar to your #1, when they cut a tomato on the cutting board and counter and leave all the "juice"

when the toilet paper runs out, they leave the cardboard center on the floor NEXT to the trash can

ditto with dirty clothes left NEXT to the basket

the kitchen chairs become coat racks

I could go on and on...

Kitchen chairs as coat racks. - sm

You also just described my husband and again this morning, I woke up to rolled up socks on the bedroom floor. I think I'll try leaving them there yet again and see what happens. More than likely, I'll be picking them up later today. :)

My biggest pet peeves - sm

When the toilet paper runs out and they leave a fresh roll on the counter and the empty one still in the holder.

When someone puts an empty container back in the fridge/pantry.

When someone uses the word "alot" in text.

Inside-out socks, used tissues, rolled-up - mthead

sleeves in the laundry pile. Have to turn the crusty socks right side out, dig through pants pockets for used tissues and candy wrappers, and have to unroll shirt sleeves - all courtesy of my 12yo. I have complained for years about this but he wants to do his own laundry from now on, so maybe I'm off the hook :-)

Have solved laundry problem here. Everyone does their - own. nm

My dad used to say.... - Trampled underfoot

[ In Reply To ..]
Leave the socks and undershirts inside out. Every other time, they'll be right!

Unless he does not empty the pockets - and you are left with...

[ In Reply To ..]
...a mess in your washer/dryer.

Wrappers and tissues are nothing compared to gum and markers.

socks - given up

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes! Inside out socks, because, "Mom, doesn't the inside have to get washed because it's closer to the smelly feet." I now wash them inside out, dry them inside out and fold them inside out, they can fix them when they put them on.

Seems most folks' pet peeves are all about others being sloppy and/or lazy.

Mine are:
People sprinkling the word "like" throughout their conversation.

Forwards from family/friends of absolute junk in my email inbox.

Baggy pants.

Typos on business signs/logos and in school newsletters.

Facebook.

oh the baggy pants. That drives me nuts. Who in their right mind ever decided to wear their pants hanging around their butt cheeks with their underwear sticking out. Ugh!

dust in public places, especially - on computer screens.

[ In Reply To ..]
always have to resist the urge to grab a tissue and wipe things off and then I feel crazy.

Oh my. Guess you will never be coming to my house. - Not Suzy Homemaker here. nm

Blocking intersections - Bad Drivers

[ In Reply To ..]
During high traffic times, and especially around holidays it is so frustrating to sit at a light forever, get the green light and not be able to move due to people completely blocking intersections. Who taught these people to drive?

Or worse, rainy days when someone parks under the portico - at church. nm

This is gross - but

[ In Reply To ..]
When someone blows their nose in a restaurant!!!!!

completely agree - about noseblowers!!

[ In Reply To ..]
I can't stand it when people blow their noses ANYWHERE and it especially grosses me out when they look into the tissue afterward. Bleck!

Not cleaning up after dogs in public places - Scoop the Poop

[ In Reply To ..]
The common grassy areas in my condo complex, the park across the street... and these places have poo bag dispensers and waste cans right there!

If you want a backyard filled with dogdoo that's your thing, but pick up after Fido in public!

It is not so much of a problem at the dog park - other dog owners will "remind" offenders of their left-behinds.

I had to reply to this post lol

My biggest pet peeve is wearing shoes in my house. I was raised with taking off shoes when I came in the house (mine or others)I HATE, HATE, HATE it when ppl come over and they do not remove their shoes, especially when they know that it is one of my house rules (DH included). I do have a bit of OCD when it comes to cleanliness, but I am at home 24/7 and I like a clean enviroment. Anyway, that is my rant for now :)

Have a wonderful day all

I have many pet peeve but to name a few - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
When someone leaves toothpaste in the sink.

When my husband sits and eats crunchy cereal in our bed while I am trying to go to sleep while also slurping the milk off of the spoon.

When anyone slurps their drink.

When someone throws away the bread tie but does not wrap the bread back up properly.

When my spouse stops up the toilet and leaves it for me to have to plunge, GROSS!!!

There are so many more. It bothers me really bad when someone is super compulsive over stupid things, so I guess OCD is a pet peeve for me too.

At the top of my list - Christine

When people sit in my favorite coffee shop and suck their fingers while they are eating. To begin with, it turns my stomach to think they just stood in line to order and handled filthy money, then sit down to eat and make that constant sucking sound. How much can really be left on their fingers that they are afraid of missing? Napkin, anyone?

Saliva, in general! - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
People licking food off their fingers, but also licking their finger to turn the pages of a book or pamphlet, particularly if it's one I'll be handling. Or how about a mother licking her finger or a napkin to wipe her kids face? Or (gasp) putting the baby's pacifier in her mouth to wash it off? Okay, I'm making myself sick now; better stop!

Pet Peeves About Names?Jul 23, 2010
I understand wanting to have a name that is different. My DD was born during the time when Jennifer was the most popular name. She ran around with a group of girls in her classroom that were called The Jennifers. I have to say that all four of my kids have names that were popular at the time, Jennifer, Kevin, Michael, and William. We didn't plan that, it just happened. And there are times that I wish they had names that weren't as common place, even though I really still like the names ...
