Okaloosa Island

Has anyone ever been to Okaloosa Island? Can you recommend a good place to stay - not too overpriced? Any place you recommend eating at or things we should do?

This is my first time to the beach in over 25 years! Any advice? I am going to go to the store when we get there to get stuff for breakfast, lunches and snacks for kids. Any other cost-saving hints would be much appreciated!

Are you definitely headed to that island or just to the general area? The reason I ask is because I think Destin is nicer. They are across from each other near the bridge.

There are hotel chains, condos and even houses for rent.

If you are driving and planning on cooking meals yourself, I would recommend bring as much as possible with you instead of buying it there. Often times the grocery stores are spread out or very small, and the prices are higher because of the touristy area. Also bring your own paper towels, etc., unless your condo furnishes that (which most don't).

TripAdvisor.com can give you some ideas and reviews as well. Remember the water will be the warmest from Apr. through Sept.

There are just so many lodging options to choose from, it's hard to recommend one specific place. It it were me I would look for a small condo/house on the beach. Have a great trip!

Destin is right across the bridge from Okaloosa Island and is much nicer. Okaloosa Island has gotten pretty run down which is definitely a shame!

Destin has lots of options for lodging whether it be hotels, condos (you can get them at a very good price if you search).

Yes, and definitely bring as much stuff with you as you can pack in the car to limit what you have to buy when you are there.

For the kids, you have to take them to Fudpuckers to eat. :-) They have alligators, a great playground and you can eat there somewhat cheap if you try.
