This is the saddest day I have had since my father died. My daughter's family pet, 12-yo Husky had cancer. They have known for about 2 months. Got worse. They knew last night that today was probably going to be the day they would have to put him down. She and her husband stayed home from work to take him to the vet, and I agreed to take the kids, 8 and 4, to school. The kids have also known he was seriously ill. They put him outside to see if he would get up or move around, even though it was pouring down raining.
The saddest thing I have ever seen is my 8-yo grandson go out in the pouring down rain to say good-bye to his dog, rubbing him, talking to him, and crying over him. When they took the dog away, he sat down on the patio and cried his eyes out. And then he had to get ready for school.
I have cried all day.
