Has anyone tried those funky new sneakers I've been seeing?

Posted: May 4, 2010

This particular pair is from Skechers, but I've seen cheaper knockoffs (but even $50 to me is not cheap!).  They are called "Shape Ups" and have a neato looking sole onto them.  I have a blown out knee that is never going to get better because I can't afford surgery.  I was thinking these looked incredibly comfortable for gimping around in.

I actually snagged a little old lady wearing a pair similar to these the other day.  I told her I LOVED her awesome-looking sneakers and her face just lit right up.  She told me hers were by Dr. Scholls and she said she found them in Sears on sale for just under $50 and LOVED them.  She told me she has bad arthritis and these were the first pair of shoes she could wear and not be in pain all the time.

So, that was just one opinion I got and I was wondering if any of you guys were brave enough to try them yet.

Smile

A ton of companies make them. The originals are MBT, which are around $200+. I was intrigued by the Sketcher's commercial on TV, but didn't want to spent #100 on something I may hate. I got 2 pairs of knock-off Thera-Shoes at Sears/Kmart. I got a pair of black clogs for winter, and regular white sneakers for summer. They cost about #30 per pair. On my google research, they compare favorably to the more expensive brands.

I absolutely love them. I have low back pain and bad knees, and I swear when I'm wearing them, Nothing Hurts!

I was in alot of pain with plantar fascitis and a heel spur. I spent over $400 (not covered by ins) at a poditrist for special custom made orthotics; and they did not good at all because I needed Bozo the clown shoes to fit them into and clown shoes are not part of business casual required by my company. In desperation I tried on Sketchers. They have some that look like Mary Janes (ulgy Mary Janes, but Mary Janes). They are wonderful, they were more comfortable to me than the sneaker style. After 5 months of being in alot of pain I could finally walk again without pain. They are ugly but sooooo comfortable. Best $100 I ever spent.

Thanks for letting me know how you liked them! I just snagged a pair through Roaman's, who was offering 40% off plus free shipping. I'd like to try them on first, but the closest stores are at least 30 minutes away and this place has a great return policy, so I'm going for it. I'll let you know if these sneeks send me to the ER or not.

:D
I couldn't find them on Roaman's. - shipwrecked

I looked for them, and if the sale was good - plus free shipping - I'd order them. They did have Easy Spirits rockers.
They were in the new summer catalog I just got. - Hayseed

I know...I like to shop on line, prefer it actually, and I couldn't find the sneakers anywhere on line. I called their 800# and they said they haven't updated the site yet with the new products. I have a card with them, my only "credit" card, which is why I'm getting them from there.

TO Hayseed:

Mind if I ask you a question that is off topic?

I have been trying to figure out how to get pictures into the MTStars posts, but nothing I do seems to work.

Would you be willing to give me some step-by-step instructions (please be kind – sometimes my brain takes a vacation and I need simple directions to follow)?

You can Email me, if that is easier.

Thank you so much for any help you are willing to pass on.

By the way, I am 60 years old and have been wearing Sketchers for a couple of years, but not these particular Sneakers (grandkids got me into them).  I will have to check them out.

Skechers just always have the cutest looks, and I love the way their tennis shoes just look so feminine, even this type of shoe.

I'm definitely gonna check these out at the mall when I go next week and see if I can balance on them and walk comfortably. If so, I'm gonna grab a pair :-)

I didnt even read your post... - Just glad to see you back, Hayseed! nm

My daughter had the Arabian we dressed up as a dalmation for 4-H. You were so much help with the "horsey" information!

Let us know if you get a pair and how you like them - LinK

My husband thinks they're the ugliest looking things. I won't tell you exactly what he said they looked like. He also told me that someone at the gym where he goes wore them and that after a while they actually gave her problems (calf pain). I'd be curious to know how you like them.

I loved these Avia kind, (Avi Motion) was about to get a pair. $50 at Kohl's on sale and my mom was going to charge them, which gave us another discount!!
Woo Hoo!

Until... The warning label on the bottom of the box on the pair I was getting said "Warning: The material in this footwear has been known to cause cancer, infertility, and other reproductive organ problems."
:( um no...So I Put them down and wrote the company and asked them what they meant..if it seeps through and gets in your body somehow or if it has to be torn apart for that to happen, which is what I figured but still I don't want to take chances. They still haven't written me back.

Nice to 'see' you, Hayseed - desperado

My friend did extensive research on these shoes because she has chronic foot pain, and found a pair with excellent reviews at K-mart for under 40 bucks, sorry don't know their name, but she said her foot pain has completely gone away and they have improved her posture. Hayseed good to have you back. Read your blog for a while.

Yeah, they're the ones I was talking about above. - shipwrecked

They're called Thera-Shoes, and sold by Sears and K-Mart for about #32. They come in white sneakers with a couple choices of trim, black sneakers, and black or white clogs.

My Goofy Skecher Sneakers Came In Yesterday And...May 13, 2010
Holy crap do I love these sneakers!  I don't care if they look retarded--they feel FANTASTIC!  I have a bum knee and I can no longer fully extend my right leg to walk normally.  Well, the minute I put these shoes on I was able to just go with it...and I mean within the minute!  They came pre-laced with white laces with a spare black set.  They have little sparkle dots on them near the holes where the laces go that I didn't even notice until the sun hi ...
