Today is the anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Thought I'd post this in case anyone cares to listen. Great tribute!

The story of the Edmund Fitzgerald has always been a favorite - love the song too!
I love that song but it is so depressing - Backwards Typist

Every time I hear it, I am close to tears. The video puts names and faces to it which makes it even more depressing.
Those that chose the life of fishermen, merchant marines, etc. are the bravest of the brave. I never knew what they had to deal with until I watched Deadliest Catch, Lobster Wars, and the one (can't remember the name) in Boston ("The Perfect Storm").
Sadly, what those fishermen have to endure for what little they make on each catch, it makes me furious to see how much the middleman adds to the cost just so we can enjoy the catch of the day. I feel the fisherman should be getting 3/4 of that cost, not the peanuts they get for all their hard work.

It is very sad! I lived on the St. Mary's River in Sault Ste. Marie during that storm, and all the freighters passed by our house on the way to and from Lake Superior. We lost all of our front yard that was on the water during that storm. I can't help but get sad on this day each year thinking about all of those men and women on the Edmund Fitzgerald who lost their lives. It is a great honor to those who perished that Gordon Lightfoot wrote and sang that song.

Watching the squid boats through my huge living room window at night with the lights, etc., and just being infatuated with the ocean in general, had I been born male I would most definitely have earned my money being a fisherman, no matter how little it paid. I've always been strangely drawn to the ocean and everything about it. Oddly, I can't swim a stroke, have almost drowned twice in my younger years (not realizing how far out I had gone), and yet I'm still drawn to the ocean.
(Yes, I am indeed very weird...however, things like the EF and TPS and anything similar are subjects I always find fascinating).
RIP the 29 aboard the EF and all the others who have lost their lives at sea.

I live in Duluth, Lake Superior is practically in my own backyard, I have never even heard this song, or at least don't recall hearing about it. I am going to look it up tonight when i get some free time. Today is actually my birthday and I every year i remember the anniversary. There is a lighthouse (split rock) up the north shore that shines its light every November 10 in rememberance of the Fitzgerald.

Walker, Now Fitzgerald Have Made Liars Out Of Those Who Mar 10, 2011so vociferously defended this bill as a budget measure and denied union busting. Fitz got a little cocky (as the cons have a tendency to do) and admitted Walkers and his intent was to defund unions in an effort to undermine the 2012 presidential election in a Fox interview with Megyn Kelly. Guess they have figured out there is no way they could ever win an election based on the merits of their agendas. Not only was this not about the budget, but it was not even about Wisco ...
