Denture Adhesives Help Please!

Posted: Mar 24, 2016

Just went the Affordable Dentures route, both up and down.  A relief to get rid of the perio and bad teeth.  Love the dentures, healing quickly, but due to bone loss have to use adhesives.  Having a problem with the right one.  Can anyone recommend really good ones?  TIA for any and all help.  Have a nice day all!

Denture adhesives - toothless

Congrats on the new you. I made that plunge about 10 years ago and it has been better than I expected. I found that I do not like the adhesives that have mint flavoring - it makes food all taste minty. I use the Fixodent Complete free. I get it at Walmart for about $4.00 (you can get coupons for a dollar off usually monthly in the Procter and Gamble coupon booklet in the Sunday papers or online at any of the coupon sites. I also use the Fixodent powder in addition because I have this fear of my teeth coming out in public. I never laugh when I see that on America's Funniest Home Videos. The only thing that takes time to get used to is finding your magic amount that does not cause too much ooze when you first put them in, but enough to keep them in place all day. You will just have to play around with that. I found that the Sea Bond pads are a nice idea, but do not stick where they are supposed to and you have to cut them to fit and are really kind of useless. I did not like Poligrip because it never lasted all day long and I would have to redo it before dinner. I do like the Polident tablets for nightly cleaning and just give a good rinse in the morning - I never use a toothbrush to "scrub" and they have lasted these 10 years in perfect shape. People are usually shocked when I tell them they aren't real. Good luck!

Thanks for the good wishes and advice. Will try the Fixodent. Ten years is remarkable for one set!

I highly recommend Super Poligrip Free.

There is basically no taste which is the best part! Plus it sticks my dentures down very well and lasts the entire day.

See if there is the possibility that the dentist could put a liner/lining on your dentures. It could help them fit better in your mouth without having a new set made, and could make them more comfy for you too. With the liner, they wont slip as much, if at all, which will help with the sores that sometimes develop due to friction. Also a possibility that you will not need adhesive due to the better fit. I think it's referred to as a Perma-Soft liner, but not sure. It's worth checking into anyways.

I don't have dentures myself, but went through all this with a couple family members. Glad you are liking your new smile. I know it's an adjustment at first, but it sure beats a constant painful mouth.

My husband has ordered those liner kits from junk mail catalogs for about 35 bucks or gotten something like them from Wal-Mart, which have worked temporarily. But, his latest new pair was purchased in Mexico, because we live within driving distance sort of and the price was right. He is happy with them so far.

I was not suggesting purchasing one from Wal-Mart or from any mail-order catalogue. The actual dentist puts in the liner and fits it to your mouth. Its very soft and my hubby loves the liner over any adhesive ooze or goo. His teeth fit him better, but he had to have another upper denture made after his old one cracked. I hope I make sense about the liner.

Embarassing DentureMar 09, 2012
This is very embarassing and sounds sort of stupid (at least it does to me), but I am having problems with a denture.  In July 2011, I had to have my remaining upper teeth extracted and a full upper denture made.  It was ready just before Thanksgiving.  (I've wondered if I got too "used to" eating with no teeth !) Anyway, the dentist gave me this "New Denture User" orientation kit.  I do fine with cleaning it, brushing with toothpaste/toothbrush, etc.&nb ...
