Meditation oil?

Posted: Jul 4, 2010

Someone at work told me she had some kind of perfume or oil which was meant to be used as a kind of aid to meditation. She said, she didn't have time for the meditation, she she put the oil on her wrists before she left the house and hoped for the best! It made me wonder, though. I know various scents can have an effect on mood, and I always liked the smell of incense in church. What scents do you think would be ood to put oneself in the right frame of mind for meditation or prayer?

I always burn incense for my 4:30 a.m. japa meditation, but it doesn't really matter to me which I burn. It's more about ritual and setting the mood. Personally, I like Nag Champa or Indian Temple Incense, but sandalwood and others are nice, as well.

Hello:

Lavender is probably the best. Eucalyptus (spelled ?), possibly some sort of cedar and then there is orange, orange blossom. Check the internet for soothing oils, but the ones above I use for baths, to help relax and meditate.

Happy Oiling!!

I want to share something with all of you that may be incredibly valuable ... life-changing, even.  Those who have known me for a while know that I am a regular practitioner of guided meditation, and have been for many years. Of ALL the life changes I have made in the last two decades - nutritional ones and lifestyle ones - the addition of regular, daily guided meditation has been one of the most profound. The way I began many years ago was with one of Deepak Chopra's very firs ...
