Does VooDoo / Witchcraft / Magic really exist?

Of course they exist, just like other religions and belief systems. - SM

The question is whether there's anything to them (and I'm including religions, major and minor here, too), to which the answer is probably not, unless you believe there is. Belief is what gives anything its power.
No, it does NOT exists and I do NOT believe that it exists. - sm

I have never seen a "ghost," or something even similar to it, and I think that people who say that they did, were either framed or under the "influence" of something that is forbidden or should be forbidden!
That's my belief!
Who said that religion is the "opium of the poor?"
I think it was Marx?
He said, "Religion is the opium of the people" - nm

It can't exist...if it did then the owners, managers, etc., at MQ would look like the jack as_es they are! la, la, la (I'm singing here)...put a spell on you, put a spell on you baby...
Do you believe in God or The Devil? - Have you "seen" either of them?

that's something else. We are not - sm

supposed to see God or the devil.
But we have to see a "ghost" to believe that there are ghosts.
I never looked at voodoo and witchcraft as religion - nm

rather as a cult.
Funny - that's how I always saw - the Catholic church!

A cult that tried to rule the world.

Mormon Church - cult - just me

I am a member of Presbyterian Church USA, and we have always believed the Mormon Church to be a cult - scary group.
As a "Mormon" - and member of
[ In Reply To ..]
the LDS church, I've always believed the Presbyterian church is a cult.
Actually, I don't think any church is a cult. I believe there is some truth in all religions, but I DO believe the LDS church has the complete gospel - not just bits and pieces of the gospel that have been distorted by men.
The LDS church is based on the original church as it was established on the earth by Jesus under the guidance of Heavenly Father.

Whether you can put a hex on people with them is another story. I believe that if the person being "hexed" believes, then yes that aspect does exist.
Practicing Wiccan for 25 years - Glenda
[ In Reply To ..]
Of course it exists, as does Christianity, atheism, Judaism, etc. I've been a practicing Wiccan for 25 years, long before it was the "cool" and "trendy" thing for thousands of Gothic kids to claim.
Magic is all around you, you just don't realize it - all in the labels
[ In Reply To ..]
There's not much difference between a prayer and a spell - the forces of the universe have patterns that interconnect in a beautiful kaleidoscope, like life itself. Think the Bible is against magic? Ponder this - Solomon was the greatest magician of them all, condoned and enouraged by God in his practice of magic.
I agree in that there is supernatural power at work in this world. However... - GodlyMT
[ In Reply To ..]
it's not the "labels" one should be concerned with, but the source of the power. I am a Christian and while I find the practice of Voodoo or Wiccan in direct opposition to what I believe, I do not discount it's power. I just happen to believe that the power being worshipped is from an evil source.
A person may have a mystical experience while practicing voodoo or witchcraft, it will not leave the person fullfilled, but will leave them wanting more. It becomes an addiction.
When you are touched by the spirit of the Lord and you've experienced His power, everything else pales by comparison.
No more addicted to magic - than others are addicted to church
[ In Reply To ..]
The spirit of the Lord IS in magic. God created all things, including magic. It is a tool, it can be used for good or bad, like any other tool. There are more ways to communicate with God than sitting in a church - of course, your minister/pastor/rabbi/priest doesn't want you to think that or nobody would come listen to him and he'd be out of a job.

I'm also a practicing Wiccan - for 20-years. Nevermind the TV shows and hexes, and other strange practices, but pagan religions are really quite, ancient, beautiful and loving.

VooDoo, witchcraft and magic are rooted are Satan's way of communicating with people. He is not God and he cannot read hearts to answer requests. He is not omnipresent. He does not know all. There is just a lot he cannot do. Therefore, he has devised a 'spell' system so that he can get a clearer idea of what people want him to do for them, so he can try to fill their requests and make himself seem more powerful than he is.
You could describe prayer the same way - as your last sentence

"Therefore, he has devised a 'spell' system so that he can get a clearer idea of what people want him to do for them, so he can try to fill their requests and make himself seem more powerful than he is."
Try inserting the word 'prayer' where you have 'spell' and they sound identical - because they are. Perhaps God and Satan are the same as well, two sides of one coin, a Jekyll/Hyde type personality. The old testament certainly portrays God as a not-so-benevolent force, subject to mood swings and over-the-top punishments.
It ain't all love in the New Testament, either. - No deity tantrums for me

It's called - justice
[ In Reply To ..]
He is a loving God but also a just God. God says, "Vengeance is mine."
Don't you want justice for those that live their lives practicing evil and wickedness, people whose lives are defined by bringing strife to others intentionally through murder, rape, molestation, etc.? People are constantly being warned throughout God's word, and they refuse to listen. He is a just and holy God, and to say that He and Satan are one in the same is outright blasphemy (to the above poster). This is not my opinion; it is right there in God's Word.

any *versions* of the bible. What is written is what is written. You either believe all of it, or none of it.

no versions - I actually posted the above,
[ In Reply To ..]
and that is precisely the reason I choose none of it!
It was written to control people at certain points in history - you are brainwashed
[ In Reply To ..]
There are political, secular reasons that the Bible contains what it does - and why certain things were left out. For instance, I don't believe God hates women as much as the patriarchal creeps that wrote it did. YOU go ahead and belive you're supposed to be a craven servant to a husband - I'LL believe that YOU "see through a glass - darkly". And I'll believe what I please - I don't have to believe the whole thing because I don't believe some of it EVER came from God - it is mostly a bunch of myths and scare tactics to control people, with a TINY bit of God's true word mixed in.
Whoa, there. - Evidently you did not read
[ In Reply To ..]
my next post, two posts down from the one which you're replying to! But even if I did believe in the Bible, did I deserve such venom?
Not to mention that nowhere in that first post did I say where I stood on believing it. I just don't believe that people can pick and choose what parts they are going to believe and try to adopt, while leaving out the more unsightly parts.
May I ask you a personal - question
[ In Reply To ..]
I completely respect your opinions and your feelings.
Have you ever read Scripture, even just the New Testament? If so, did you apply what it said to your life? Honestly.
I'm not being argumentative, and I'm not going to be. I was just wondering.
Yes, I read scripture and applied it to my life - still do in some respects
[ In Reply To ..]
So, how much of it do you apply to your life? The animal sacrifice part? The part that a woman is "unclean" and should hide in a hut being shunned by society during her monthlies? A Kosher diet? Covering your hair, letting your husband interpret the Bible for you and being subserviant to him? Do you keep Saturday holy - or Sunday?
There's so much in there that is nonsense created by man, and every denomination picks and chooses what the Bible "really" means and discards the rest. It takes away from the message that God is love, it distracts from the message of forgiveness. Its funny how they lecture us that we must "know" Jesus and then suppress a great many books discusssing Jesus (such as his early childhood) entirely. I have found God in my own way. The Bible is just one of many paths to enlightenment - and I study all books that interest me, and believe what I feel to be true when I find it. I have chosen what I deem good and discarded the rest, just like all organized religions do.
Good for you. :-) I'm a Krishna devotee myself. - SM

I find the ancient Vedic scriptures (including the Bhagavad Gita) more relevant to me, though I don't absolutely accept 100%, either. But, on the whole, I find it a much more loving and gentle philosophy than Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. Again, for me. It took me until my mid-50s to find my path, but I finally did.
Who are you kidding? There is no justice! - Not for me or mine!
[ In Reply To ..]
Let's see, I prayed my entire childhood that my dad would quit beating me on a daily basis - but he went on making people's lives miserable for 30 more decades and never once was punished for his violence and sadism. My little sister was molested by 2 different family members, was silenced by the rest of the family, and both those child molesters kept on with their evil ways and died peacefully in their old age!
Your justice is a joke, and so are the concepts of mercy for some of us. What do I care what God does to someone in the afterlife when they are allowed to continue performing evil against children their ENTIRE lives on earth?

So....what Did You Ladies Think Of Magic Mike?Jul 06, 2012I thought the language was a little much....I mean, come on, nobody cusses and uses the F word that much, do they? Aside from that, I thought the story was cute, and the dancing was pretty hot. I have never been to a male strip tease show, but I am told that men make more at it than women.
It's funny because all of the women in our family, and large circle of friends, went together. It is really not a good movie for men (even if they were gay). None of the men, of c ...

The current troubles of the Obama presidency can be read back into its beginnings. Rule by personal charisma has met its proper fate. The spell has been broken, and the magician stands exposed. We need no pollsters to tell us of the loss of faith in Mr. Obama's policies—and, more significantly, in the man himself. Charisma is like that. Crowds come together and they project their needs onto an imagined redeemer. The redeemer leaves ...
