My opinion is that we need more technical schools so that people can learn skills that can be used in the real world. It’s difficult to compare MTs to plumbers, welders, construction workers and mechanics. I can’t do what they do and can’t compare it to transcription because they are such different skill sets. The labor rate at auto repair shops might be $100 an hour, but the mechanics probably only get to keep $20 of that. MT is female dominated, and unfortunately there is wage disparity. It is unfortunate that MT no longer pays a living wage. It is still in demand but offshoring drove wages down.
