between the President and the jackals in the press who hate his guts and want to embarrass him at every turn.

I think this also shows the potential dangers of a political office holder trying to jack up the hopes and confidence of people. When your earlier predictions don’t pan out, for whatever reason, your enemies will jump on them to hurt you.

I know the President loves to wind up creatures like Acosta, but I wish he would simply ignore him and call on people who are actually interested in digging for useful information rather than in staging a confrontation over meaningless stuff.
