Why Bernie Sanders' Communist - Misadventures Still Matter

Bernie Sanders:

• praised ("with reservations") the economies of Castro's Cuba, the Sandinistas' Nicaragua and the communists' Soviet Union until the Berlin Wall fell
• ran for office as a candidate for the Liberty Union Party in Vermont, seeking a top tax rate of 100%.
• wanted to stop businesses from leaving their original communities, saying that to protect workers we need national legislation that would "bring about the public ownership of the major means of production."  He endorsed government seizure of "utilities, banks, and major industries" without compensating to investors or stockholders.
• soon after being elected mayor of Burlington told a group of charity workers, "I don't believe in charities," because only the government should provide for needy.

In his latest incarnation as a "democratic socialist" he's a millionaire who calls for single-payer health care, free public college and a $15 minimum wage.  He tells us that Scandanavian "socialism is an ideal.  Of course, he ignores  the fact that they are every bit as capitalist as we are.
