COPD - medications Posted: May 6th, 2019 - 7:10 am
I recently went to my annual wellness exam and since I could not get to see my own PCP, I was appointed with a physician assistant I had not seen before. I really liked her. she was thorough and quite helpful. I had been diagnosed with COPD about 2 years ago and had been using an albuterol inhaler occasionally since that time. The PA asked if I would be interested in trying a maintenance inhaler, as the winter had seemed to make my breathing problems worse. I told her that I would like to try it.... until I received notification from the pharmacy that I would have to pay $355.23 a month for this until my deductible from my Part D supplemental insurance was met. Seeing as how I am on a fixed income as it is, and working part time doing MT, I cannot afford something like this! This is terrible!! Also it is a Tier 3 drug, which the insurance company states "preferred brand name" anyway, so even if there was a generic, we wouldn't be allowed to use it anyway! This is ridiculous! How are people supposed to get the medications they need without going bankrupt?? The pharmaceuticals seem to target the most used medications for these increased prices, as it is! Just venting here. sigh.
