Do you want control of illegal immigration or do you want a wall? If the wall fixed all of our problems, I would be all for it. While it helps, it leaves many issues to be solved. Our problems at the southern border are NOT EVEN HALF of our illegal alien problems.
If the government remains shutdown for "weeks or years" as Trump said, we will lose so much protection that is already in place, TSA workers, Secret Services, FBI, etc., etc. You simply cannot expect these people who are protecting us to go on for "months or years" without pay. No one would. While I do not believe Democrats are actually for "open borders," I do believe both sides should be willing to negotiate on improving illegal immigration in a larger way, including the southern border of Mexico even if it does not mean a wall.
If neither side is willing to give, we need a higher level of thinking to do some mediation.
