I guess the Church still believes in purgatory but over the last many years I notice that no priest ever mentions it. A really cool nun helped out in an administrative role at my church and when I asked her about purgatory and told her I did not believe in it, she told me that she didn't either. It is not in the Bible and what that Sister said to me was "I only go by God made, not man made when it comes to my faith and what I believe to be true." We are saved through faith by grace and Jesus did not hang on that horrible cross and suffer beyond what we could ever imagine only to have us linger in a place that even years ago was considered a mini hell. So even though it is not official per Rome, most of us no longer believe in such a place. Believe with your heart the Truth, which is this "Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again." I feel badly that the wording for this profession of faith was eliminated by the Vatican through a remodeling of the liturgy and prayers we now use, and replaced with "we profess your death Oh Lord and proclaim your resurrection until you come again" but it is still the Truth. No purgatory in the Bible--Vatican-made, not God made.
