police dept has had a course for just this very thing...being able to handle a situation in the case of a mass shooter, etc. It was a very informative course and offered skill training at the end of it. It is not something that most of us would encounter in our lifetime, but you just never know. I have a neighbor who was being the victim of a home invasion and an attempted kidnapping. Not knowing what the situation was at that time, I did inject myself into it and unknowingly became the situation to stop the assault. I reacted on instinct to someone needing help and thought not about what could happen to me. I saved a person's life, unknowingly, and had no weapon with me at that time. It was at that time that I armed myself. If this ever happened again, I have no doubt that I would be able to react enough with a weapon to not kill, or take someone down, but to injure them enough that they would not escape justice, and would not take 6 years to locate and prosecute the perpetrator, as it did in this case. Yes, they were eventually caught and are now serving 70 year sentences, but not before a 5 year spree of robberies, kidnappings, assaults, and shootings of their victims. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time in order to help another would-be victim, but if I had been armed, it would have ended a whole lot sooner and eased a lot of nervous minds. It takes courage to confront a perpetrator, and if more people were armed and educated in situations such as this, more people would be saved as opposed to some people not wanting to "get involved" standing by just watching or god forbid, photographing it with their phones. Being armed makes us more courageous in order to protect others. We all need more courage to help protect all of us. We need to confront these individuals instead of running away and hiding, waiting for someone else to do it. This is just my opinion, because I have been there.
