This makes perfect sense to me. Thanks Trump, for the - freedom to choose! sm

The only thing Trump did to the ACA was sign the tax cut bill that removed the individual mandate.

There are independent contractors and small business owners who are too poor to afford for the mandate and too poor to afford health insurance. These are people who don't feel they need health insurance. (You can argue whether they actually DO need insurance in another topic. The point here is that they don't WANT insurance. Free country, individual liberty, etc.)

To avoid paying the mandate, they signed up for Medicaid. They're working poor, this is their right.

Medicaid is a pain. When I had it, there were about 20 pages of paperwork I had to fill out every year. To verify my eligibility I had to prove my income qualified. I also had to list my possessions and state the current value.

Now that the mandate is lifted, those people no longer need to jump through the hoops to get Medicaid. Something they didn't want/need in the first place.

In fact, your linked article cites the repeal of the mandate as the cause of the change in coverage. "Among adults with insurance coverage, 9 percent of those who got their insurance through the individual market, 5 percent of those with employer coverage, and 5 percent of those with Medicaid said they intended to drop insurance because of the change."

Don't you think it's a little unfair to say that "people lost coverage" when the truth is they made that choice? Or maybe I have this wrong. Are you thanking Trump for giving them the freedom to choose their healthcare options?
