Agree! More signs of a dying industry... - DocControl

I've been in my outside document control job 11 months now, and I'm pretty much thriving. It took a few months to adjust to being in an office setting and around office chatter, different personalities, and away from home, etc., but now I'm used to it. It's located 3 miles from my home, and I have a window, too. I've made a couple of awesome friends, which has been fantastic, and I love having weekends and evenings off, paid holidays, paid vacations, 401(k), and a steady paycheck that I can count on. Nevertheless, it was hard on me in the beginning because I'm close to retirement age, so more challenging to adjust to new situations, and the stress of learning a new job would trigger night sweats and intestinal issues (I had to rely on Imodium at first). I persevered because I had no choice and also because I wanted to succeed. Now I've become a "vital part" of the team (per my supervisor's comment just this past week), and I'm soaring in my role.

Still, though, a part of me is an MT--I fully identified with that role and was proud of it, and I miss working in the medical field, constantly learning new medical terminology, and having the ability to work from home. I miss the days of straight transcription and striving to produce excellent reports for the providers I worked for, so I occasionally pop in here to see how everyone is doing. In doing so, over time I first noted decreasing jobs being listed and now basically nothing decent, then more and more IC positions, and finally even the comments are dwindling. It's sad to see politics-related rude posts as often the largest number of new items on the board. It confirms that the remote transcription field is nearly dead and that I need to finally completely accept things for the way they truly are and mentally move on... I think I'm finally there...
