This was during GW Bush. They were working (about 300 plant workers) and the local TV crew pulled up and started interviewing them about how they felt being laid off the week before Christmas.
What a rotten deal! We took all the Christmas presents we had bought and took them back to the stores. I was not a person who ever really returned purchases before I found not buying at Christmas was actually okay and I felt really good about it. The buying frenzy at Christmas has pretty much stayed away from our house to this day. We recovered from the lay-off. My hubby went back to school and got a very good job where he has raises and is earning a good retirement.
