How do I liquidate a parent's storage units? - Rita Posted: Oct 17th, 2017 - 6:30 pm
My elderly father has at least one storage unit of household goods since decades ago. He's living in an apartment, and I am too. He's finally decided to get out a few things he wants and let the rest of it go. So I happily agreed to go to the storage place with him and look at the situation sometime in the near future. He is a terrible procrastinator and this could take months. This storage place is not a self-storage. Everything is in huge wood crates that we are not allowed to open up and spread out there. Should he have it all delivered to a self storage? I tried to find on Craigslist maybe a garage for rent in our town, to no avail. There's just a driveway available. I thought I could rent someone's garage for a month, have it all delivered there, then have one yard sale for a weekend, then have a junk hauler take the remains away. Do you recommend estate sale professionals? There are some family antiques that he will take out first, and he is a control freak who must look at everything first. He is not looking to make a fortune, just to get out from under. I just don't know how to handle this since we are at a "moving and storage" company. Thanks!!!
