I can tell you that in all the driving around that region that she did (and it was a lot), she never saw a single modern (less than 10 years old) house or complex. Not one.

In Window Rock (the Navajo Nation capitol), garbage was everywhere. she noted on her first day at one major road junction the bloated carcass of a cow. It looked like a nasty, dusty, dirty, run-down third-world country.
