Can someone explain to me why we, - the American people I mean

Want to be friends with Russia? I don't get it.

Why is Trump pushing this so darn hard? It just doesn't make sense. It's not like they are a trade partner with something we really need, it's not like they are a country we need as a strategic ally (Putin is supporting Syria's Assad, for goodness sake, who is a war criminal!). What the heck is in it for us?

I have to wonder if Trump has ulterior motives for pushing this, and I really would like to know why he is so focused on being "friends" with Russia. Any thoughts on this?
