Can someone please suggest something?

I have posted before about the last two years of my life, which were painful and stressful beyond description.  I mean that literally.  Problem is, on top of trying to live with those things that are not to be changed, I am an emotional eater.  I go from refusing to eat enough food, to eating and stacking on weight, which I have done now for many months.  I need to take off about 25 pounds, and it seems I just can't.  Diets don't work when I am stress overloaded.  Seems the more stressed I get about the weight, the more I am eating.  Does anyone know of a group other than Weight Watchers who really deals with the emotional side of this problem?  I see a therapist from time to time, but she deals more specifically with grief and abuse issues, which are key for me.  She has helped me and literally saved my life, I am sure.  However, I need to address the eating before it gets any worse.  Thanks in advance.  I am sure so many of you know what I am saying.  I am trying to console myself and deal with many losses with food.   Thanks again. ;

Weight gain - Walk!

[ In Reply To ..]
OA might be good for you to start with, but the best thing, take an hour walk a day. Make time for it. First thing, when you get up, thrown on a pair of shorts, grab a banana and head out the door. You don't have to start off like a speed walker, but build up as you go. Pump your arms and increase your stride. If you can do two walks a day, morning and afternoon/evening (after dinner) try that. It will clear your mind too. Take music along that is upbeat, and walk to that.

Good luck. BTW, I am speaking from my own experience and I did lose the weight and the crazy food cravings, etc.

Do you like to read? One thing that really motivates me to walk - are the free You Tube audiobooks

You can find pretty much any book on You Tube. I listen to a lot of Stephen King books while I walk. I got a pair of earbuds at the Dollar Tree, plug them into my phone and away I go. The great thing too is you can find a story that takes about how long you wish to walk and then you know when you are done.

Remove all temptation - anon

I would increase your trips to the therapist to deal with the underlying issues.

After that, I would remove the junk food from the house. If you have to snack, make sure you are putting something worthwhile in your mouth. Have a bunch of fresh veggies cut up ahead of time: broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, bell peppers, pineapple spears, whatever. Perhaps some cherry tomatoes, or just something easy. If you know you will not take the time to cut them up, spend the extra money to buy ones pre-cut. Don't even let chips, soda, cookies, crackers, or whatever your downfall is into the house.

I often find in my life that I only have so much energy that I can devote to everything and the reality is I do not have the emotional energy to deal with making good decisions on eating/weight. Since I cannot focus on losing weight, I try to prevent the problem from getting worse by not allowing those things I already know will not be good for me. I admit I am quite the tightwad but I try to give myself permission to just pay the price for a cold soda as a treat instead of bringing home a 12 pack or a 2-liter bottle. I enjoy that cold soda but can prevent myself from overindulging.

What works for me is having a treadmill in my bedroom. When I get the urge to eat something I shouldn't, I make a deal with myself. Get on the treadmill for 15 minutes, and then, after being on the treadmill, I want to eat, then that's it. 99% of the time I don't want to eat. For me, exercise satisfied whatever it is the food satisfies. Women, Food, and God is a great book/audio book. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to these things. It is important to love and value yourself. I'm giving you a big virtual hug right now. You deserve it.

When I was young I was in a car accident which limited mobility for a long time. I would get depressed because I couldn't do things I used to be able to do, etc. To make a long story short, I was able to move again, but the damage was done. It was difficult to take the weight off but one of the things that actually helped was brushing my teeth when I felt hungry. The feeling of hunger only lasts 10 to 15 minutes, and by brushing my teeth, my mouth felt fresh and clean and got me through that 15 minutes (sometimes I would have a glass of water I brushed my teeth). I know it sounds silly, but it really worked for me. I took off the weight and never looked back. I still do this whenever I just want something, but I'm not actually hungry.

I wonder how long one can live with a situation which is "painful and stressful beyond description" but "is not to be changed."

Not sure what point you are making, but what happened in my family and life is permanent. Some things are.

a very reasonable plan according to my doctor, and from my own experience I can tell you that Phase 1, the purpose of which is to rid the body of these cravings, really does do just that. However, having struggled with my weight and PCOS most of my life, I can also say that it is difficult to get through the entire two weeks. I have started Phase 1 at least 10 times and failed. I did manage to last the full two weeks one time, but then I went on vacation and started cheating while I was on Phase 2, and then it snowballed from there. I felt so great though for those three weeks (two on P1 and one on P2). My belly/torso fat and muffin top were greatly reduced, and I actually felt I had a fighting chance against my overeating. I am trying again today to stick with Phase 1, taking it day by day, and I want to think of it not as a "diet," although I have about 50 to lose, but rather a healthy eating lifestyle.

It makes me very angry at myself. I mean, it is only food for crying out loud. However, with PCOS/insulin resistance, it feels like I am fighting human nature sometimes.

Another point, I try to exercise q.d. whether or not I eat right. I tend to get demotivated when I don't eat right and not want to exercise. The exercise seems to keep my lipids in a normal range, which is important. I don't want to end up on LLMs.

You gals of the right and even further right settle down a bit.  You are exhibiting the hysterical behavior and emotional irrationality that men used for centuries to deny us the right to vote. You may disagree with the President on philosophical grounds but your constant exaggeration and bodice ripping reflects poorly on your reasoning skills.  Please, for the sake of womenkind, stick to verifiable facts.   ...

Neither the right nor the left have any exclusive claim to solutions - and certainly NOT the far right or the far left. Washington has never been more dysfunctional, and it's because of the deepening political schism.  Out here in the electorate, let's show the politicians how people can come together with goodwill, common sense and moderation to move the nation forward, shall we?  And if any politicians cannot or will not learn this lesson from us - whether on the right or ...
