audacity

Posted: Dec 26, 2009

Over the past few days I have been reading The Audacity to Win by Davlid Plouffe. It was nice to revisit the early days of the campaign.  Reading Plouffe's and other veteran dem campaigners personal impressions of Obama was inspiring. Obama's level-headedness, grasp of the long view of changes needed and focus on policy rather than politics are apparent from the beginning.  I would recommend the book, but only to those who truly are interested in wonky details.  It might be a pretty dry read, otherwise. I came away with a renewal of my faith in the president and the comfort of believing we are in good hands.

You've probably heard of "re-gifting"?

Welcome to the newest fad - "re-suckering". What you do is, you take the people you suckered in 2008, you put out a book (oh, let's call it "Aud-Ass-Ity") that confirms what they desperately want to think - i.e., that they weren't suckered in 2008 - and you sucker them again.

Re-suckering. Thank God it doesn't work with many.

It's a known logical flaw of the human mind that we tend to place great weight on "evidence" that confirms our prior decisions, and will ignore anything that suggests we were wrong - even the evidence of our own eyes (as in the case of Yo-bama).

Re-suckering takes full advantage of this flaw, but it really requires a suspension of disbelief on the part of the sucker. How the suckers manage to do this is beyond me, but they do it.

minimum age limit for this board. My eight-year-old came up with these exact terms at different times about different things. I did tell him not to use them in front of anyone else, for obvious reasons. Tsk tsk tsk. lol.

Thanks. I will buy it. - Colleen

Got to love it!  People up on their hind legs over a t-shirt.  Snide remarks about taking money to the bank from them.  Suggestion that they donate profits to reduce the deficit. No problem with the uberwealthy having unjust tax breaks and tax dodges, but high anxiety over a campaign novelty.  A-N-D they think it is Bama who has intelligence deficits.  Hoot, hoot!   ...
