For all I know it could be porn, or some even worse gosh-awful clickbait like Huffpo, NYT, the DNC or NPR radio, who will never make money off my clicks.

If it's an article, video, blog post, etc., kindly provide the title or at least the subject/topic.

And if you're that worried about people linking to porn, or something malicious like facts you don't want to know about, why would you trust they'd put an accurate description in the box? Maybe everyone should start typing "Daisies and Ponies" in the URL description box.

I think you're confused. Including a URL link in the provided field is, by definition, revealing one's source.

If you're going to try to spin that as being ashamed, well, perhaps you should not waste your time with any of us, as there are clearly larger issues at play.

There are several people on here, on both right and left, who post a link without a description of where it is from and what is in it all of the time. While I agree that sometimes I hesitate to just click willy-nilly I have not found anything wrong with any of them so far. Since when did this change?
