Rep. Aaron Schock resigns

Posted: Mar 17, 2015

Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock is resigning his seat in Congress. The 33-year-old Republican has been dogged by questions about his spending of taxpayer and campaign dollars. On Monday afternoon, POLITICO posed a lengthy set of questions about charging the government and his campaign tens of thousands of dollars in questionable mileage reimbursements. “Today, I am announcing my resignation as a Member of the United States House of Representatives effective March 31,” Schock said in a statement. “I do this with a heavy heart. Serving the people of the 18th District is the highest and greatest honor I have had in my life. I thank them for their faith in electing me and letting me represent their interests in Washington. I have given them my all over the last six years. I have traveled to all corners of the District to meet with the people I’ve been fortunate to be able to call my friends and neighbors.” “But the constant questions over the last six weeks have proven a great distraction that has made it too difficult for me to serve the people of the 18th District with the high standards that they deserve and which I have set for myself. I have always sought to do what’s best for my constituents and I thank them for the opportunity to serve,” he said in a statement. ******* Typical conservative hypocritical scum. Good riddance. ;

The scumbag is not from Chicago. The scumbag represents the Springfield, Peoria, Bloomington, Jacksonville area. The district he represents includes all 11 counties that were represented by Abraham Lincoln during his term in Congress.

So there's that.

I especially love this quote:

"I have traveled to all corners of the District to meet with the people I’ve been fortunate to be able to call my friends and neighbors.”

And charged those taxpaying friends and neighbors with every bit of that "imaginary" travel - because your odometer said 81K miles, but you turned in 123K miles to the state and federal government for reimbursements?

I understand being under constant scrutiny/people looking for dirt gets old, but that comes with the territory, and I'm sorry, you HAVE to answer financial (transparency) questions, especially if it's regarding using taxpayer funds.

If that's NOT true or there's some explanation, his resignation statement should've stated so. If it IS true, he needs to admit wrongdoing.

The last thing he should do is try to evoke pity for himself like he does here :/

Not crazy about the "typical conservative scum" statement because I know for a fact both parties do things like this, but I understand the sentiment with politicians in general - and I happen to know for a fact politicians on both sides do this, not just "from Chicago" or anywhere else

Speaking of which, in viewing conservative response below thus far - seriously? C'mon now, this one is bad, ya gotta admit. Ya can't keep pretending only libs do things like this.

He will also receive his full tax-payer funded pension. nm - VTMT

how it affects them. There is no thought into their votes. Or they are in total agreement with communism. Funny, because those agreeing and embracing Communism have no true understanding of it, every attempt at Communism has failed mightily, and you never see them make a choice to move to a country, by choice, that utilizes their chosen government of Communism.

Shows you how weak they really are in any thought process.
Exactly 100% correct. Obama and Hildabeast both big - supporters of Communism

But since Liber/Dems routinely fail to investigate anything outside of their limited mental bubble of talking points, they are not aware of that..

Both of them have a very long history of supporting Communism and communist leaders. Google = your friend, but for the Lib not so much since they so hate the truth.

I keep seeing this good versus evil theme in regards to politics. - sm

The right wing has been talking about "good will triumph over evil" for quite awhile now. I guess "good" lost in 2008 in the eyes of the believers? I personally think the war monger and the idiot lost. LOL.

Again in 2012, we heard the same utter nonsense of "good" versus "evil" and even had some so-called Christians go back and rewrite their previous declaration that Mormonism was a cult of non Christians. Suddenly they compromised their so-called ideals and went against their own declarations of faith.

Fast forward, and now we're seeing the same old silly theme from the religious righties of how good will somehow triumph over evil.

At what point do they realize that their "side" might not be so good? At what point do they realize that God's will has already been done? At what point do they concede that they didn't pray hard enough?

Just asking. I don't actually buy into all that stuff. I just know that majority rules, and it's hard to win national elections when your party is the minority one splitting into two factions on opposite ends of the same spectrum and the crazier the rhetoric gets, the more polarizing it gets right along with it. These days you're not a "real conservative" unless you think the President of the United States is a Kenyan born Muslim with a phony birth certificate from the island of Hawaii who has an evil agenda to wipe out capitalism, what I call the Red Kool-Aid rhetoric.

I actually thought he was kind of a breath - of fresh air

Until he inevitably starts with the typical conservative talking points.

He was on the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park to End Extreme Poverty by 2030 and he made quite a good speech. Also very hot, extremely fit.

I am guessing he might come out in the future. I hope so. I guess I could be wrong, but there are rumors and if they are true it could mean a whole new career for him. There are many gay conservatives, and despite the Republican party not supporting them in substantial ways, the more visible they are the better.
