Preparations for the RNC and DNC

Posted: Aug 2, 2012

In the middle of all the pomp and circumstance that surrounds the Republian National Convention, a hefty dose of heavily-armed police repression of citizens exercising 1st Amendment rights is planned.  Convention insiders, namely candidates, delegates, lobbyists and billionaires who pick up the tab, will remain unmolested and oblivious to authorities in riot gear, unlike the commoners assembled and speaking outside the hall, who will find themselves thrust into the middle of a temporary police state.

Tampa’s mayor heeded the call of GOP officials by passing a temporary ordinance green-lighting protest suppression and relegating those animals who dare to engage in the festivities to containment corrals.  Arrests en masse, preventative detentions, and gendarme infiltrations will be the order of the day (or should I say the entire week of the convention's duration?).  The city's legal eagle promises zero tolerance for 1st Amendment "troublemakers."

Water pistols are taboo, but concealed weapons are encouraged (LOL).  Regardless of their numbers, public expressions of dissent will be confined to out-ofsight, off-road “viewing areas” and “parade routes.”  On the other hand, organizers have made clear their intent to move about and speak out freely, as Americans are inclined to believe is their right.  Low-income alliances plan to camp out on private property in “Romneyville,” and provide safe harbor for those who believe GOP policies will explode poverty nationwide.

The 1st Amendment was never intended to protect partisan powers-that-be FROM speech they find offensive or, worse still, threatening to their aspirations to higher office.

By contrast, DNC security Charlottesville ordinances prohibit camping out in public areas and the use of cables, bars, projectiles, spray guns, breakable containers, aerosol containers, fireworks, smoke bombs, pepper spray, mace, masks, scarves, body-armor, helmets, and police scanners.  That’s it.

RNC Convention...St. Paul...2008 - Liberty

I truly hope police are prepared for the RNC convention, and can keep those people safe.

At the RNC Convention in St. Paul, anarchists invaded St. Paul with knives, machetes, buckets of nails, hacksaws, bottles and buckets containing urine, heavy chains, rebar, broken up cement blocks and molotov cocktails - to name just a few things. The anarchists smashed police cars, threw things off of bridges at vehicles going under the bridges, smashed department store windows in St. Paul, attacked police and RNC delegates, and bags of urine and feces were thrown at police and bystanders. Significant damage and mayhem was caused by the anarchists.

So, yes, I will say again, I truly hope the police are ready for the anarchists at the RNC convention.

Thank you.

All legitimate concerns - addressed by both conventions

but scattering and tucking protests by law-abiding Americans in compliance with the laws out of sight and distancing them from the the convention site, far from reporters trying to count and interview them, serves exactly what purpose? Speaking of anarchy, isn't this the same kind of authoritarian over-reach American revolutionaries faced before breaking ranks with their British overlords?

BTW, Aurora recently showed us all how one strategically placed concealed-weapons toting loon can exact a toll much greater than all the 2008 St Paul vandals combined. Viewing fellow citizens as threatening anarchists could easily provide a motive strong enough to trigger such a horror, just as creating an atmosphere that escalates tensions between protesters and counter-protesters potentially sets the stage for similar such miscues.

I'm sure there are those who will sleep more soundly at night knowing licensed gun-huggers loaded for bear are standing by to courageously "protect" them from each other. Would those be the same folks who find water pistols more intimidating?

Please Elohim, - keep those

blinded to our Lord’s seven abominations: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run toward evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and ones who sow discord among brothers.

Excuse me, but are you saying that if these people were called something other than "anarchists," they would be law abiding citizens? There were peaceful demonstrations at the 2008 convention and then there were the anarchists. You can call them whatever you like, but just changing their collective name to Bunny Rabbits or Little Lambs won't change their actions.

Thank you.
No, that's what you are saying - sm

in your haste to stray from salient points you otherwise wish to avoid addressing. Anarchy does not arise from a vacuum, as American patriots who who proudly extoll the virtues of ancestral rebellions would be quick to point out. Banning water pistols while sanctioning the right to pack concealed weapons loaded with live ammunition is sheer lunacy that flies in the face of alleged anarchist "crowd control."

I am simply taking issue with the absurd hypocrisy underpinning that part of Tampa's city ordinance, the land of Zimmerman wannabes and stand-your-ground laws that lead them to believe murdering folks who they "feel" are a "threat" in cold blood is justified. Some just might think this is a recipe for disaster.

Reminder: There are loose cannons on both sides of the protest ropes.

The right of the people to peaceably assemble and petition the Government for a redress of grievances is guaranteed by the Constitution.

There were approximately 10,000 largely peaceful protesters present at the RNC convention; a total of 21 were charged with felonies.

I agree that individuals who commit felonies are to not be tolerated in a peaceful society, but treacherous individuals bent on violence and sabotage have nothing whatsoever to do with citizens' right to peaceable assembly. (!)

Characterizing individuals who seek to exercise their first amendment rights as "anarchists" is tantamount to calling firearm enthusiasts "gun-toting crazies."

I doubt you would be in favor of abridging gun laws because of one lunatic in Colorado, so why would you throw the first-amendment baby out with the constitutional bathwater?

We can only hope - that Mitt and Ann will

Winter Storm PreparationsJan 21, 2016
So, here in the south, when ever we have winter storm forecast everyone rushes to store and stocks up on french toast infredients (milk, eggs, bread). The grocery shelves will be literally bare. Its sort of bizarre.  I always thought it was strange to stock up on milk, eggs, and bread, rather than other things. What do you stock up on when winter weather is forecast?
