Not a car, knife or spoon---once again a GUN

The 2nd amendment is outdated.

The first study, which comes from The University of Alabama, shows that the United States has had at least 90 mass shootings over the last fifty years where four or more people were murdered. This doesn’t include robberies or hostage situations either – this only counts gunmen who go on shooting sprees. These 90 mass shootings make up an astounding one-third of all mass shootings that took place across the planet during that 50-year span.;
Right on cue as expected. Would you prefer he use a - bomb? How about a skewer from a BBQ

grill? It was the killer's intent, the MO doesn't matter.
Yes, just like security systems, if the burglar - is coming in, he's coming in
[ In Reply To ..]
but deterrence is something we all ascribe to. We lock doors, have security systems, alarms on our car, et cetera.
So how far do you think he would have gotten with a barbecue skewer against a football player. Do you think he would have taken out 2 and injured 1?
Guns are much more effective and way too easily accessible. This is just stupid.
Right on cue, using a tragedy to push a political - anti-gun agenda.

I don't consider fearing for my loved ones' - lives from crazies with guns

to be political. And, yes, I consider most anyone with a gun to be crazy.
To quote the family "another crazy person - with a gun."

I am not the sort to dwell on that which cannot be changed, except to learn from it, and then move on toward the change. The change needs to happen. We need less guns in the public's hands.
Maybe we need counseling on exit from firing at employment. Maybe we need people to care about each other's state of mind. Work with this somehow, but for god's sake don't tell me the only answer is more guns.
If he hadn't had a gun - SM!
[ In Reply To ..]
If he did not have a gun he would have gone after them with a knife. If not a knife a hammer, if not a hammer sticks, or rocks or a rope or any other thing he could have used as a weapon.
What people are not getting is it is not the guns and no, guns should not be taken away from people. What are you going to do next, take away people's kitchen knives, or all the sticks, ropes, stones, hammers, etc.
People are going way overboard on gun control and that needs to stop.
I have to disagree, for a coward like this - guns make things easy
[ In Reply To ..]
Can you picture that guy who shot these people coming at them with a knife or a hammer or any other method?
He wanted attention, he wanted it on film, he wanted to be a big scary killer. He wanted it to happen quickly before anyone realized what was happening. His gun made that easy.
He hardly looked like a Navy seal, did he? (My first thought when seeing him was straight to Parks and Rec - Perd Hapley, anyone?) I doubt whether he could have pulled off any other method but the easy way, shooting at distance, and that is an important distinction for crazies choosing methods.
It just cannot be denied that guns make things easier and way more damage is done by these cowards with delusions than could possibly be done by any other method.
That being said, hard to see what could have prevented this particular incident as regards any gun laws anyway. This man was a disgruntled employee and had been fired from apparently multiple jobs in the past, but he did not have a criminal record and there would have been no reason to refuse him a firearm. As far as we know so far, even his mental health issues were not particularly major, no red flags to predict this level of violence.
I have never heard anyone EVER, politican or otherwise, have the goal of taking away guns from people. I think we, as a country, just have to try to figure out ways to make this kind of thing less likely to happen.
When you have someone who is demented and obsessed - like this, the weapon is really immaterial.
[ In Reply To ..]
...and incidentally, obtaining a gun isn't nearly as easy as simply running into people, as he could have done these.
This man was obsessed and "easy" isn't really a consideration for people like this. People who are obsessed WILL find a way to do what they want to do - in fact, that's really what we mean by being obsessed, in the context of narcissistic revenge obsession. Take away his gun and he'll do it another way because HE IS OBSESSED WITH DOING IT.
This is a mental health issue, not a gun issue - and our problem is, we're not coming at these things from the right direction.
He wasn't mentally ill. This was premeditated plain and simple - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
He was seething with anger since he was fired and wanted to "get back" at the station.
The motive was jealousy and racism, blaming everyone else for his problems, just like a lot of other people blame others for their problems instead of owning up to it being their fault.
Pure and simple.
So the mentally ill cannot make plans, yeah - right...
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you describe serial killers as mentally ill? Most everyone using a gun is mentally ill, oops, I meant if they used it illegally to cause harm to some being that didn't deserve it, oops, I meant like killing a person, oops, I meant a person other than one that had been decided by an authority to be deemed less than the life they lived.
Maybe you just don't "believe" in mental illness.
Today--he obtained gun legally - he was involved in road rage
[ In Reply To ..]
approximately 1 month after obtaining gun and 1 month before using it, yesterday.
This road rage episode could have triggered some sort of mental instability watch. But, of course, that would require lists of people with firearms, or some sort of invasion into their lives to protect society from the possible events of yesterday.
Somehow we have to decrease the "love of guns" culture. Still contend that anyone can appear just fine one day, obtaining a gun, and the next day or days, months or years later, mental stability is no longer there and that gun becomes a killing weapon.
Why do people swallow these bogus "studies" without - any critical review whatsoever?
[ In Reply To ..]
Almost everyone knows that "university studies" - especially in the sociology realm - are extremely dubious. So why do people embarrass themselves by quoting studies such as this one, which is flawed in at least 3 ways that are so obvious that a child of 7 could see them if he cared to look?
I'll tell you why people do this. They do it because they:
1. Don't know how to do the work of logical critique.
2. Don't wish to do the work, either because they're too lazy or because the "study" fits their narrative and that's all that matters.
Watch those "studies" - they usually ain't nothing of the kind.

When any dufus starts protesting gun control, yet they will not give up theirs, then the following motto should be said....
"You first".
Gun control - you first.
Higher taxes - you first.
Poor health insurance - you first.
Moldy school lunches - you first.
See, pretty easy.
Gun control for thee but not for me. - Hypocrites

What's the objection to universal background checks? - curious

To me, this is common sense. There's definitely a gun problem in this country. Other countries have mentally ill people too, but gun deaths in other countries are dramatically lower. Guns are a problem.

I went through hoops to get my license. It should be hard to get a license, in my opinion. No idea why anyone would object to having a background check to own a gun I mean...it's a gun, you know?

There's evil in the world.... - always has and always will be.
[ In Reply To ..]
As George Will said on Fox News Sunday. We will do what we can, but we have to accept the fact that there is evil in the world and we can't stop it all....won't help to get rid of guns, won't help to lock up all the mentally ill - these things will still happen.
