I just want to punch somebody

Posted: Dec 17, 2009

Remember.... I know you remember......... I can still feel the tears as they steamed down my cheeks...... I watched my husband cry sitting across the room from me..... We were so excited........ This country was going to change......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUovEJaC5Zk

I'm so sad tonight..... this is not what I thought would happen...... I don't feel that optimism now...... I don't have that wonderful hope in my heart.....

I am sad and frightened for many of my friends and many on here who are so in need of changes in health care. Lowering the age to qualify for Medicare would have helped so many that I know.

Then, last evening "they" voted down Senator Byron Sanders' drug importation amendment which would have allowed us to get drugs from other countries - sometimes at 1/10th of the cost here. I understand Nexium costs $400 per month here and $40 in Germany.

I'm sick.... just sick of the insurance and drug companies running/ruining our lives.....

I'm beginning to think Governor Dean makes sense......
"This is essentially the collapse of health care reform in the United States Senate. Honestly the best thing to do right now is kill the Senate bill, go back to the House, start the reconciliation process, where you only need 51 votes and it would be a much simpler bill."
Dean had supported legislation that included the public option and the Medicare buy-in; without it, he says it should be killed.

I'm truly disillusioned......and feel so sad to be feeling that way.....

And I'm angry...... I'm angry that right now a friend's parents are going to lose many of their assets as he has to go into a nursing home and Medicaid wants to "draw down" on their assets.

I'm angry because I talked with so many in Europe who could not imagine ever having to think they might lose their homes, their savings.... because of the expense of health care.

Our system is brutal and inhumane..... it's disgusting and unfair....... and I just want to punch somebody......
;

get in line.... there are many, many of us! - liz

What is SAD is that even if this healthcare bill was passed, it would not help your friend's parents. We will begin paying taxes on this health care immediately, but they will not receive coverage until 2014..... wrap your mind around that!

I also heard recently that ILLEGAL ALIENS will have access to free health care! They just have to sign up. Even legal aliens can now get Social Security Benefits and Medicare! Those of us who have worked our entire lives (most of since our teens) can't get crap. For such an "advanced society" we look like idiots compared to Europe and Canada - say what you will about "socialized medicine" at least you can get help without selling your soul and everything you have worked for all your life!

Ya heard wrong - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
Illegal aliens are specifically NOT covered by the health care reform bill. That is a rumor circulated by the opposition, which is mainly the health care industry.

NJ
No, you are wrong - they ARE covered in the bill - see message (links provided)
[ In Reply To ..]
The US House Ways and Means Committee defeated an amendment that would have excluded illegal aliens from the crap-care bill.

Even an article from MSNBC says that illegals will be covered under the plan (last link below).

The only rumors that are being circulated is the rumor that illegals will not be covered and is being spread by the left-wingers.

There are many more links, but these are only a few.

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, if they work and have false IDs (many are already covered this way) they will have to get insurance. Of course, we could spend a billion finding them all. Or add 100 pages into the bill to eliminate all chance of an illegal alien being eligible.

Expecting this bill to solve the current situation of illegal aliens passing as citizens is pretty silly. But it's not welfare for them as the right would have people believe.

NJ
Why not add another 100 pages, NJ? There are - already 700 or so nobody is reading.nm

cannot provide free or even just affordable healthcare to its people. All because the majority voice continues to allow the minority voice to bully them around. The party of "no" will have their last revenge, and it will decimate what little is left of the middle class. They will be happy that they "won". Kind of like the United States with respect to the rest of the world -- it ain't about what's right -- it's about showing how big and strong you are . . . .

the majority voice.. - really?

[ In Reply To ..]
The majority voice is opposed to this reform. The people don't want it. The overriding fear is that their care will suffer while their costs will increase. This isn't the party of no, as you would call it, but the voice of the American public. And, by the way, there is no such thing as free health care. You think the rest of the world has "free" health care? ever heard of the GST in Canada? Know the tax rates and/or quality of care in some of those countries?

If you listen and read, it's a different story - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
Those who buy the health care industry's side of this is opposed to reform. The rest of us, the majority, want it.

NJ
majority - really?

Where is your proof? You think you are a majority. I think you're not. See Rasmussen on percentages favoring or not favoring this reform. Now give me something that says the majority want reform - not just your opinion.
It's been posted before - NJ

Rasmussen shows extreme ends of the poll...strongly for, strongly against. Other polls have been posted here on multiple occasions that show a majority favoring reform.

Where exactly are you, NJ? Do you know any Canadians? I am in MI and we have a summer cottage in Ontario. I know lots of Canadians - and have family there. Talk to them about what they think of their health care.

And, BTW, on one of your quips on the thread below about missing the depression, come to metro Detroit if you think we've missed the depression. Check out Ohio's "rust belt". Things are miserable around here. YOU may have missed the depression but it hit here full strength.
Not mainstream - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
NE Ohio is where I am. We slipped in 2000 and although the rest of the country seemed to bound back a bit, we never did. I suspect the same is true of your area. MI has been hit hard in the last decade. It isn't going to change drastically very soon, either.

I am talking about the country-wide and world-wide economic black hole caused by the credit default swaps. The thing that tumbled the stock markets. Not a regional thing brought on by outsourcing, which is much of what caused Michigan's problems.

And yes, I know plenty of Canadians, as I've posted before. They may complain about things but when it comes down to a serious talk about health care in Canada versus health care in the US, they want their system over ours. Most any sane person would. The health care system in the US is broken.

Those that think it isn't must be well able to afford whatever they want. That is not the majority of US citizens. The rich here are very much a minority.

Historically, Rasmussen has been the most accurate poll out there. But of course, you don't agree with it because it doesn't support your opinion. Only the ones that you agree with are accurate, right? And all you have is your opinion - with which you presume to speak for the entire country.
Agreeing with facts - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
The moon is orange.

That is a fact.

It is not always true, just at certain times from certain perspectives.

Rasmussen used "strongly support" and "strongly oppose" to arrive at a figure which can be misleading. The president can have a majority supporting him and still come out looking bad in a Rasmussen poll if those who "strongly oppose" number more than those who "strongly support".

Do the math, cj. You've got the capability to understand it.

Somehow, they are blaming everything except laying the blame on the cause.

When the whole system fails, and no one has any money I will be sharing the little I have with my like-minded friends. The rest can call up the White House and ask for some "Change." hehehee.

Reconciliation - NJ

We should have done it to begin with. The republican plan all along was to make the bill so crappy it would fail even if it became law. We need to move on to reconciliation now and to heck with the Party of No.

How about all you "yes" people get together, create your own healthcare plan and FUND it with your "majority," and the "Party of No," completely out of the loop.

Good luck with that.

Funding - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
If the Party of No had been left out, and the public option had been left in, it would have funded itself. That was how it was written up. The health care industry managed to snow the public and make them forget that part.

The current bill won't effect many of us, which means a smaller pool, which means it can't pay for itself. It's what the health care industry wants. That should tell you something right there.

I agree with you completely. There is so much propaganda out there that people believe, it is disgusting! I really thought after they were smart enough to elect a president that actually cares, they wouldn't be so gullable. People have such closed minds it is really sad. Health care is needed. Forget Canada. Look at Europe. We are the only industrialized country with for-profit healthcare. No wonder we have so many foreign doctors, here to get rich. People don't care if they have to wait for elective surgeries if everyone waits, rich or poor! Wake up people and check out the real facts not just the right-wing propaganda. It is sad that people feel so threatened by change when that change is so good for everyone, for once not just for the rich as so many things are.

gullible is thinking he really cared - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I cannot remember a politician who actually cared about us. The current one certainly doesn't nor did the ones before that.

What's worse is congress is filled with stooges that don't care about us and are not shy about showing how much they don't care.

Not all foreign doctors are here to get rich, and not all doctors are rich. After paying off malpractice insurance, etc, not all are rich.

People don't want to have to wait for surgeries they need right away

You do need to check your own propaganda. It's the left-wing propaganda. You sure are falling for it. Do some research and find out the truth for yourself from many web sites because you sure aren't getting it from what you are listening to.

The propaganda is coming from the left, and - majority not falling for it ! nm

The reason I mention Chavez is because the madmen in our White House are following to the letter the steps that "President" Chavez used to take overf and also, yes and it must be said, Mao Tse Tung and Hitler. Please, just do a little research and you will plainly see this is the case.

Please....clarification - vigilant

[ In Reply To ..]
Steps used by current and all previous dictators to take power including "President" Chavez:

1. DESTROY THE ECONOMY.

Obama uses "stimulus" for a huge store of available cash...mainly using it to buy votes.

Taxing small business so they go out of business and we lose jobs. Then "create" jobs for us by giving small business money and owning them to dictate what they do and make them totally dependent government.

Doing the same thing exactly with banks.

Extending unemployment benefits to keep us dependent on the government. Again, increase taxes to do this, and tells us we are very unpatriotic and wrong if we don't gladly pay these taxes to help our unemployed. That is one of the reasons he took, and is continuing to take, our jobs. He already has way more than enough cash to accomplish his mission of "creating jobs for us".

Now is passing a bill for 50% inheritance tax to become effective in 2011, again buying votes necessary. In other words farmers are unable to pass their farms on to their sons when they die. The government will take all of our farmlands as well as anything else anyone may inherit.

2. TAKE OVER HEALTH CARE.

I think this is very clear to everyone. Just bought Nebraska vote to get it through the senate.

3. GET RID OF RELIGION.

No Christmas religious symbols. Now we say "Happy Holidays". It is no longer politically correct to say "Merry Christmas". It is what we are founded on, freedom of religion. If our religion insults you, then go elsewhere. Go back to where your religion is. They don't want to do that because they are not free. hmmmm

After removing all religious emblems and pledge of allegiance in our schools, our children are being taught to chant "Obama, Obama". We must have only 1 "savior".

4. TAKE OVER ALL COMMUNICATION.

Already has control of all but 1 TV news broadcasting company, and all of the leading printed news. We still have some radio broadcasting stations thank God.

Now is attempting to take over the internet for, in his words, "neutrality" on the internet.

5. TAKE OVER TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS.

Now he is "creating" jobs for us (that he took and continues to take) by "updating" our subways and roads by actually installing recorders and cameras in all subway cars and toll road booths. He will create jobs as long as they contribute to his mission, and we need the jobs so we will do it for him. If we don't, give citizenship to illegals. They will be another support base for him because he gave them citizenship and they will do it for him even cheaper.

I could go on, but think about it. We are deliberately and methodically being crippled as a nation and as a people, as he says "fundamentally" changing our country. Our enemy is in our White House. What kind of change is this?

All replies are welcome. I wish someone would prove me wrong, but with facts, not just opinions.

Michelle Obama - for having 22 personal assistants costing taxpayers 1.7 million dollars a year.

Mamie Eisenhower had one personal assistant, and she paid for that out of her husband's salary.

This is only one place your funding for taxpayer assisted healthcare went.

I mean most states cover insurance on children and that is great to get them to them to a healthy age so they can vote and pay taxes. Then in the middle don't take care of them at all! Wow that is the most perfect idea ever! (sarcasm) Then if they make it to the ripe year they can actually get health insurance then they have a bunch of health problems that cost them tons of money to fix that could have been prevented in the first place if insurance was offerred to them via work or government!!!!! Obama is making no efforts, repeat... NO efforts, for bipartisanship. He IS trying to ram down our throats a health bill that will destroy what good health care people have, and will destroy America, all for what...so he and his goons can run it? It's not going to cover everyone so ya really need to lay off that lie.

There are other options, if you would put aside the disdain for anyone who is not a liberal and listen to the republicans ideas. They have a website and they talk about their ideas. They have also talked about them on MSNBC, CNN, and Fox.

Obama and the fascist regime is trying to cram down our throats a bill that will not be good for us, will not cover everyone, and will still give illegal aliens free health coverage, and will be the ruins of the country.

And as disgusting as your last line was....As for being rammed from behind...that is what he and his fascist regime is doing to us now...and you don't even see it.

Particularly, I'll take the independents, republicans, green party, and some of the moderate democrats any day over the facist/progressive/nazi regime that's in their now. But more importantly looks like the country will be saying no to your party of "Do as I say and not as I do" come this next election.
