Evan Bayh

Posted: Nov 14, 2012

Someone posted on this board that they would vote for Evan Bayh for President should he run.

Evan Bayh was on Washington Journal on Tuesday, 11/13/2012 in a question and answer session that is 43 minutes long.

I thought he was interesting and thought he might be a decent candidate for President  in 2016 so did a bit of checking on him.

I found out he was totally for ObamaCare before he realized there was a 2.3% tax on medical device sales (comes because of not reading the HCA before voting?), so he wrote an article in the WSJ on it:

Another article states:

It seems that, since his departure from the public sector, Bayh has developed a powerful interest in a new public policy issue: the tax on medical devices in the Affordable Care Act. Did you know that this tax will harm medical innovation and push American jobs overseas, unless Congress acts to repeal it? Bayh finds all these arguments extremely compelling. (The Bloomberg View editorial page, which shares the same basic centrist orientation as Bayh did as a Senator, has pointed out before that none of these claims are remotely persuasive.)

He now works for the lobbying/law firm McGuire Woods, which has clients opposed to the tax. He’s being paid by both McGuire Woods and Apollo Global Management to act as a agent on their behalf.

An article about Evan Bayh retiring from the Senate states:

Evan Bayh announced his retirement from the Senate two years ago, and sailed off into the sunset on a wave of paeans to his upstanding character and laments for his party. Bayh himself penned a lengthy, high-minded New York Times op-ed calling for all of us to come together for the national good. Truly, he was too good for politics. Then Bayh quietly slipped off to, as they say in Washington, “practice law.”

So, what’s the difference between Evan Bayh and Mitt Romney? Nothing except one is a Democrat and the other a Republican.  So I’ll just keep looking for a viable candidate for 2016.  No time like the present to start looking.

Mr. Bayh is acting as a lobbyist for SEVERAL medical device companies, - and no doubt being paid very well. SM

From Media Matters (video of the Fox and Friends segment at the link below):

"Fox & Friends hosted former senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) this morning to rail against a tax on medical devices included in health care reform legislation passed by congress in 2010. Neither Bayh nor Fox News disclosed that Bayh is currently a partner at a law firm that represents several medical device companies.

Bayh, who was hired as a Fox News contributor last year and voted to pass health care reform when he was a senator, appeared on the network to criticize the tax for several minutes. Bayh joined the hosts in claiming the tax would harm innovation and cost jobs in the medical device industry. During the segment, Bayh expressed hope that current members of Congress would "do something" about the tax."

BTW, don't you think Fox and Friends should have informed its viewers about his big-money link to these companies? Whatever they're paying him, it may total more than any of us make in a lifetime.

I have no idea if Fox and Friends should have informed the viewers - backwards typist

I don't watch Fox and Friends, so I don't know what was said by him on there, and I definitely do NOT read articles on Media Matters because of the association with George Soros AND their hatred for anyone not a democrat or progressive liberal.

I posted articles I looked up on the 'net and posted said articles from what I THOUGHT would have been legitimate approved articles without me being bashed again over the articles I chose. As usual, I was wrong. There just isn't pleasing any democrat or progressive liberal.

Have a nice evening.

BWT, I believe the 2nd post was in follow up to 1st post - Innocent Bystander

I believe that was just some additional information, and yes, I agree with the 2nd post that F&F should have informed of potential bias like a good journalist show would do (like Rachel Maddow on MSNBC)

I know if I feel guilty about something, I am extra sensitive, too.

BT, 1. I posted a VIDEO, 2. DH is Jewish (just so you know). - 3. Media Matters monitors for lies and distortions

conservative media. It was set up specifically because some on the right, empowered by the information age, ramped up their use of lies as a weapon to destroy anyone in their way. MM is a firmly progressive watchdog, but that does NOT mean it hates conservatism, it hates liars. I think you'll agree, those terms are not synonymous.

Of special note, honest conservatives use this source, among many other honest fact checkers, to help them stay honest and accurate. You should too. After all, we all need any help we can get to fight the forces of darkness.

When an ex-Senator starts fussing over a minor - business issue, it's a real tipoff. Schmuck.n

Do you think knee replacement orthotics are minor costs? - backwards typist

Seriously. How much does one cost?

Then add the 2.3% tax to that. This tax is on EVERY medical device including stents, protheses, etc. plus equipment used in operating rooms and doctor's offices. It means higher costs for all because that tax will be passed on to the consumer.

WASHINGTON – Sen. Evan Bayh, a centrist Democrat from Indiana, announced Monday that he won't seek a third term in Congress, giving Republicans a chance to pick up a Senate seat. "To put it in words I think most people can understand: I love working for the people of Indiana, I love helping our citizens make the most of their lives, but I do not love Congress," Bayh said at a news conference Indianapolis, where he was joined by his wife and two sons.
