Husband died in 1997 from CA of the larynx (original diagnosis from a "civilian doc.") -- VA turned around and said it was "CA of the hypopharynx" which does not classify under the Agent Orange Act. I have been fighting for years to get what was entitled to me and have gotten nothing but excuses. Right now, if I could collect, I would be receiving about $250K and would not be in the financial predicament I am in right now with no place to live etc.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's tough being in that position. - backwards typist

I'm going to share that article with my friends and relatives. Maybe if other people get involved and pressure Congress, you and other widows will get the help they need.

Everyone on this board should support your cause and call their Reps, Senators, write letters to the newspapers, etc.

Prayers for all of you.

Really needs fixing! Bizarre as it sounds, tho, it may be that - the PRICE of the insurance was set lower with the

understanding that it would not pay while a widow was receiving survivor benefits. The key being lower premiums to make sure the widow gets something--one or the other. If the premium level reflects this limitation, by just covering the cost of the program, that part of it's fair; if it doesn't, then of course not.

The whole thing obviously needs reworking anyway, with proper respect for women, as well as the servicemen's wishes.

The double-pay issue's not at all unusual in insurance, though. The extra long-term disability policy I purchase kicks after an X time period but not if the short-term insurance my employer pays for is still paying. One OR the other, no collecting from both.

BTW, after the Revolutionary War, Congress gave survivor benefits to war widows, but the limits they put on them meant relatively few would qualify (no longer remember what they were, but I believe they may have included traveling to Washington to present their cases). Of course, we weren't exactly a wealthy nation then. As the decades went on and the nation became more prosperous--and more and more widows died off--Congress munificently made it easier and easier to qualify until toward the end any widow still alive (i.e. almost no one) could qualify. Here are five of the most outrageous statements Clinton made in that three-and-a-half hour FBI interview: 1. She cited her 2012 concussion as the reason that she cannot remember details of briefings during her "transition out of office." 2. She said she never even thought whether emails she exchanged on a future U.S. drone attack should be classified. 3. She said she thought the "C" before a paragraph indicated alphabetical order. The C actually stands for "classified." 4. She sa ...
