Alec Baldwin cut at the Emmy's

Posted: Sep 20, 2011

Well, we all know about the Fox propaganda machine, but they even edit Alec Baldwin on the Emmy's? Good grief. Alec Balwin's words on the Fox/News Corp. hacking fiasco: "Prior to last night, the Emmy producers flew me to LA to shoot a pre-tape for the show with Jane Lynch. In that routine, I made a joke about the News Corp. phone hacking scandal which the writers and producers had pre-approved before I made the trip. We shot the segment with the joke in. A couple of days later, I was informed that the producers had been told by some Fox entity that the joke had to be cut. I then asked that the entire piece be omitted, as I felt the joke was, perhaps, the funniest thing in it. I did not boycott the Emmys due to that edit. I suppose I am accustomed to a different experience, having worked on 30 Rock for so long, where we have been given the license to skewer the General Electric corporate culture without interference from GE. GE was nothing but gracious and even appreciative of the jokes. However, in some sense, I understand News Corps.' reluctance to include that joke. If I were accused of illegally hacking into the private phone messages of the families of innocent crime victims and doing so purely for profit, I would be eager for that scandal to go away, too." ;

OMG...this is the answers to all of our - problems

oh wait a minute....no it isn't!! What is the point of this? Please tell me that you don't believe no other news organization has complained and had things taken off of the air or changed, etc. Because if that is what you are saying, boy are you naive!!! I don't even see where this is political news. Poor Baldwin didn't get his joke on the Emmy's...boo friggin hoo....but the host made sure to make a tea party joke and I'm sure you don't have a problem with that. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Can we please discuss something of importance?

Important enough for you to feel compelled to launch - a red herring defense.

Evidently some Flocks devotees are just as touchy about this subject as the network itself. They can dish ginned up scandals out week after week, but when they find themselves humiliated by a genuine, self-inflicted, highly embarrassing dust-up behind repeated criminal acts (including perjury), lies and systematic coverups, that occurred across the globe over years and years, they just can't take the heat.

This reveals several fairly deplorable journalistic practices, easily recognized by those who know what a joke the Flocks propaganda machine really is, that set them apart from other media outlets. First and foremost, they deliberately lie. Second, they distort and sensationalize. Third, they are the epitome of hypocrisy. They also personify an entrenched GOP/TP incapacity to admit mistakes when they have been shown to be undeniably in the wrong. Finally, they are absolutely void of ethics. This little Alex Baldwin episode clearly illustrates their thinly-veiled bully side that frequently rears its ugly head, which on some occasions is symptomatic of their larger fear-mongering mission.

Thus, like Baldwin said, it is perfectly understandable that they and their most ardent fans would want to immediately distance themselves from the scandal the moment it is brought up in conversation. IMO, it is worthwhile to point out examples of all of the above, each time they manifest themselves, so their credibility is continually undermined, as well it should be, since the occasions to do so are so predictably plentiful.

It's not being touchy, it's just tired of the double standards - No mojo - sm

You'll say Fox is a propaganda machine and I have no arguments there because it is. However, so is MSNBC, CNN, etc. Just on the other end. They are all propaganda machines telling their audiences what they want them to believe. The real news is never told on the bube tube. It's all superficial (most of the time lies) put out to get the two parties to argue and insult each other.

There is such a double standard on this board. The people who gleefully talk about Fox being a propaganda will not admit that so is MSNBC/CNN/NPR, etc.

Guess I'm just getting tired of the cut downs and insults on this board. There used to be some good political conversations, and I used to actually learn some things. Now its taken over with people insulting the other side, calling people names, saying one news station is not credible but not admitting theirs is not either.

I wish people would wake up. Both parties are the same no matter how much you think they are different. It's just a waste of time insulting the other side because guess what, who ever is doing the insulting is guilty of what they accuse the other of.
It's not about the rampant bias. It's about their - long list of lies. sm

Bias is found across all media outlets and is a separate issue entirely, as is censorship imposed either by corporate sponsors or media executives. It is about their tactical practices, presentation, manufacturing news and scandals, the drumbeat to war (especially with Iran), and above all, their LIES...irresponsible at best, at times dangerous.

Anyone who watches MSNBC knows full well it is a progressive ("lean forward") liberal outlet. Please note this ADMISSION you claim others never make. How do they know? Because MSNBC does not PRETEND to be anything but what it is, unlike Fox, which not only sued Al Franken for daring to use the phrase "fair and balanced" in his book title (a suit that went nowhere fast) but also was sued by Alternet over the same "misdescriptive" phrase.

NPR has been accused of both liberal and conservative bias. I've been listening to it for more than 30 years and believe those opposing accusations simply reflect the fact that they are more inclined to present both sides of a story, though typically with detectable bias, depending on the subject matter. For example, they were decidedly supportive of the invasion of Iraq, but can be relied upon to at least ATTEMPT to provide relatively objective reporting on Palestine vs Israel, of course, weighted more heavily in the "politically correct" direction of support for Israel. I do not find them to be "argumentative" or provocative, more on the order of academic, and I appreciate the "in depth" nature of their presentations. That practice tends to make partisan subject matter (with which I disgree) much more palatable.

CNN is a wash for me. Just a bunch of haircuts (as my mom used to call them) trying to make a name for themselves by their passive aggressive approach to "stirring the pot" of controversy. They are like bottom feeders, picking up trash and debris from other outlets and recycling it into the bottomless pit of meaningless superficiality. Their incessant, sensationalized boy-who-cried-wolf disaster reporting is particularly annoying.

Having said that, I do not feel the need to fact check everything that comes out of their mouths, as is the case with Fox. Granted, they may take things out of context, manipulate and favor a certain viewpoint, but usually the information they disseminate is grounded in fact and accurate. When they screw up, they APOLOGIZE, retract and try to correct. For the most part, the fear factor is absent, the sensationalization....not so much.

To illustrate this point, here is the laundry list of Fox lies John Stewart rattled off on his show back in June, extracted from cursory research of Politifact's database. Though I am sure the list is incomplete, I think it serves its purpose very well. Half of the clip from the link below was his RETRACTION of an inaccurate statement he had made on a previous show about Fox (an example of liberal media APOLOGIZING and correcting). The last half is Politifact's list of lies, not half-truths, not mostly false, not mostly trues, but blatent L-I-E-S. IMO, this is what sets Fox APART from the rest, and renders the claim that "they all do it" false.
