Does anyone suffer from what I believe is dry scalp? (SM)

Posted: Jan 16, 2010

I live in the south and we have had unusually cold temps here recently so have been running our heat a LOT so I believe that this is the cause.  My scalp feels extremely tight, as if it may "break open" at any moment but when I look at it, it appears normal.  I had a friend to recommend Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp Care but that has not helped at all.  I have stopped using the hair dryer, rinse my hair in cool water (thinking that warm water may worsen the drying), have basically stopped using any mouse or hair spray.  Has anyone else suffered from this and found something that helps?

I think one should never use a mouse on one's hair...sm - from me

I use mousse. It is definitely better to have dry hair than oily hair. Be happy!

Have you tried the Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp Care 2-in-1? sm - debmt

This is not just shampoo, but has the conditioner in it as well. The bottles look very similar. We live in the south as well and my husband swears by it.

Also bought some Scalpicin but haven't needed to apply any yet.
Find I have to change shampoos routinely or my scalp starts reacting to them. Good luck!

If you wash your hair on a daily basis, stop - sm

Try washing it every other day. This can be difficult if you use a lot of products on your hair, so you may need to cut back a little on what you use. Also, look for products for sensitive skin. Rinsing with cool water will help to lessen the inflammation but it's not likely to change the amount of drying of the scalp. Water alone will cause that, hot or cold. You might also want to check with your local salon to see if they have something a little "stronger" that will help.

If you've never had this problem until recently, it probably is, in part, due to the weather. I live in the Northeast and my scalp is a little itchier in the winter months. If these don't help, you may want to have your water checked. You could have the wrong balance of minerals if you have a well and a water softener or chlorinator attached.

Try running a humidifier. - dry air

Living in Northern Indiana, winters here can be brutal. We run our furnace from Oct to April which drys out the skin really bad in the winter. Running a humidifier really helps put moisture back into the air. My mom used to boil water on the stove when I was kid instead of running a humidifier, which worked, but took a really long time to take effect and was basically boiling water all day long.

Four Months? They Have Obstructed To Let People Suffer Since January 20, 2009Jun 15, 2012
HOST: Plenty of pundits, Rob, are suggesting that GOP lawmakers might be dragging their heels when it comes to trying to turn it around in fears that it might actually help the president. Are you buying that? GRAY: Well, I’m not buying that they’re dragging their heels. I am buying that they’re rooting against the economy somewhat because they think that the short-term pain of, you know, the next four months is much better than having additional four years of pain unde ...
