mold

Posted: Jun 22, 2010

Has anyone experienced mold inside a wall?  There was a crack above the window sill and when I peaked inside, I believe I saw a small amount of black mold.  Should I hire a mold inspector?  Or just patch over it and take my chances!

Don't just patch it. If you don't kill the mold it will just keep on growing and then you'll have an even bigger problem on your hand.

At the very least, pour some bleach over the area and down into the crack to kill the mold. Is the window sealed well or is there still a possibility that moisture is getting in somehow? It might be worth hiring someone to come look at it and make sure that the window is seated properly and there are no cracks anywhere and make sure that the mold hasn't gone even farther than what you can see.

We have the same problem, but not from a window. We did the bleach thingie. It worked for a while but came back. We wound up tearing out all the dry wall in the one room and redoing after trying the bleach. I'm just waiting now to see if it worked this time. We also had to buy a dehumidifier.

A friend of mine had to tear her whole house down because of mold. She didn't go into detail.

Maybe a place like Lowe's or Home Depot would have some products. There is a product out there called Kilz, but I really don't know if it would help.
