modeling recruitment

Posted: Feb 18, 2011

My daughter signed up at the Mall to be contacted by a modeling agency when they are going to be in town for auditions.  They called last night and asked a few questions regarding her height and weight, her personality, if she would be comfortable on a runway, etc.  They claim to be looking for models for catalogs, etc.  Obviously if we get there and they just want me to pay for photos or something I'll know it is a scam, but my question is, are any of these types of recruiting situations ever legitimate? Would a modeling agency really look for talent like this or do they have enough people coming to them with professional portfolios that it's not necessary to go out and recruit?

Is there any chance this could be a real opportunity?  Anybody know?

In my state, I know of a group like this that has been in 2 different cities. In both instances, 2 of the women were told they could be "plus size models", and all the kids that I know of were told they could model. There was a fee involved.

That might happen. - annie

One thing that made me think it could possibly be legit was that the form she initially filled out asked about her height and weight, and they confirmed that on the phone before setting up an interview. She is 5 feet 9 inches and weighs 115. I guess it might be more obvious they were a scam if she were built like me (5 feet 4 inches) and they still set up an interview. Thanks for your input.

Good luck to her. If it does not cost much and you can afford it, I would let her do it.
