What about Junior Seau?

Posted: May 7, 2012

This is so very tragic -- another football star taking his own life.  Seems that no one really understood the harmful effects of concussion on thei brain.  I know from transcribing for Veteran's Administration that even 1 concusion on brain can be very harmful.  They call it Traumatic Brain Injury and usually Veterans have to take a leave of absence for awhile.   If it is very serious they may be discharged from service.  Why would this not be the same for NFL players?  I just wonder if they think the huge salaries they make compensates for repeated injuries they are subjected to in the game.   I think somebody should take action to protect these players from repeated head concussions.  Of course they probably do sign legal documents which releases the League from having to pay for their injuries.   Actually not too sure how that works.

Terrible blow to our community - in SD

It has been a terrible blow to our community here in San Diego. Sadness and a sense of loss and wondering why he took his own life. I have heard some people say it was because he was depressed from being out of the spotlight, having lost his sense of identity after retiring, but all athletes retire at some point and go on to find meaning in their lives. So I would tend to agree with a brain injury. We just cannot know. I think the players know the risks they are taking, after so much has happened, but I think it is up to the players and their unions to sort out, not the Government's place to step in and protect the players.

He was doing a lot for the community with - charitable organizations

wasn't he? It sounds like he was leading a good, purposeful life. You just never know. I think he suspected a brain injury himself because the media reported he shot himself in the chest, thus preserving his brain. He must have really been suffering to leave those kids behind and to hurt his mom so.
I agree w/you that it's not government's place to step in; the teams need to overhaul what hits are allowed and get players more help with postconcussion sequelae, and definitely stop paying players a bounty to know certain key players out of the games.

Blah! Mean't "knock," not "know" - nm

So Let's See, Junior Meets Under The ExpectationJul 10, 2017
Apparently, according to him, he didn't get anything though.  So, are we supposed to think this is okay just because he didn't get anything or did he really and is lying? I just can't understand how there are so many Russian connections yet we are supposed to believe they were all just innocent meetings.   ...

Education - 2 Years Free Junior CollegeMar 04, 2015
Valentine show:  Heard discussion yesterday that 2 years free college would destroy the established colleges, as everyone would go to the first 2 years for free and there would be no freshmen or sophomores.  Also that these people would not be prepared and many would fail and it would be a waste of money. Interview included a public school administrator suggesting that the problem is K-12 and not P-14.  (He said that Obama's proposals for pre-K and 2 years free junior colleg ...
