Ways to fatten a kittycat

My sister has a 13 year old cat who has lost quite a bit of weight. She took him to the vet, had all kinds of lab tests done and it showed nothing, no thyroid problems, no kidney disease, no feline HIV or leukemia. The cat was anemic and temp was a little low. She has tried heating baby food as well as smelly tuna, and regular soft cat food. The vet gave him a B12 shot apparently to help regain his appetite but still eats very little. Is anyone out there with this similar problem and if so, were you able to get your cat to eat better? TIA. ;

I would still bet on renal.
I seem to remember using prednisone, I think, as an appetite stimulant, but I think it might do other weird things.
Most of my 13-year-old losses have been purebred cats--they don't last as long. Don't know if that matters, just reminiscing I suppose.

I have a 16-year-old cat that's chronically - underweight. I try anything - sm
[ In Reply To ..]that I think might work: Sometimes warm canned food that's been in the fridge so it puts off more of an aroma. She especially likes that on cold days. If the food has gotten a little dry sitting in the fridge, sometimes I run a little warm water on it and then moosh it up.
She likes the gravy in some foods the most, and usually if I serve gravied foods she just licks that, then walks away. Lately she's come to really like kitten food. She particularly likes Fancy Feast Kitten and Max Cat Kitten. It seems to taste better to her, and it has more calories.
I also have to feed her more frequently, since she only eats small amounts at a time. Usually I feed her whenever she asks. (She's asking right now, actually!) That can be anywhere from 3 to 6 times a day. Annoying, but she seems to have gained 1/2 a pound recently.
She's in the very early stages of renal failure, but is healthy otherwise. Teeth are good (had some pulled 2 years ago). She's also hypertensive, which is apparently what caused the kidney problems. So she gets amlodipine, 1/4 tablet once a day to try to keep the BP down, and slow down the kidney failure.
Has she tried cooking for him? - Chicken, liver, minced beef
[ In Reply To ..]Some cat food is higher in nutrients than others. I would use kitten food. Cats also like garlic, so try adding some.
Cats also avoid eating the same thing repeatedly ...it is a natural mechanism to prevent getting sick from spoiled food in the wild. Swap out flavors daily and avoid feeding the same thing at more than one meal.
You can cook for your cat. Boiled chicken dark meat, chicken necks, livers and gizzards, and minced beef usually go over well. Add garlic if the cat likes it. You can also add finely chopped spring mix shortly before it is done. Run it all through a food processor to make it more gravy-like. Our cats went wild over it.
Sardines seem to be thrilling, too. Mash them up.

If she does not get him to take in enough calories he is at risk for feline hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease). Good luck.
